Default Hey PETA, Screw Wildlife

RACCOONS: dig up the old lady's annual flower garden, **** all over
the decks, and tear up the cushions on deck furniture. Why? On three
sides of this property, there are woods, farmland, ponds, and streams
..... a wildlife paradise; yet they sometimes get on the roof and try
to access the house. Why? Yes, I'll anti-freeze them and don't care
who likes it.

WOODCHUCKS: are even worse digging burrows near the east side property
line, but at least they have an excuse with the row of mulberry trees
that defines that property line. Still, it's a bitch dodging the
burrows on the tractor. I set a record this year by killing seven of
them, two of whom while they were mating on -- believe it or not --
Valentine's Day. Heh.

WHITETAIL: deer can be dangerous, especially in autumn. One decided
to live under a deck. He had an injured leg. He had absolutely no
fear and would approach the old lady while she played in the perennial
flower garden. Shotgun blasts did not scare him. One day while on a
deck, I dropped a 10 lb. barbell plate on him. He was quick enough to
dodge it but he finally got the message. He spent a few days down
below by the pond but then disappeared.

WILLIE THE WILD TURKEY: adopted us one summer. He terrorized the
cats, attacked his own reflection in auto bumpers, and slept on the
roof, even in thunderstorms. The only good thing about Willie was
that he exterminated most of the cricket population.

ASSORTED SMALL BIRDS: attack their reflections in windows and really
create a mess. This year, a robin, last year, a lady cardinal, the
year before that, a song sparrow.

Still, some wildlife is enjoyable. Young turkey vultures are friendly
and inquisitive while you work outside. Their parents demonstrate a
high degree of surgical skill extracting a brain from a deceased
woodchuck or raccoon through the decedent's eye sockets. Interesting
to observe. Then there were the pheasants strutting and eating a ton
of bugs but they suddenly and mysteriously disappeared 20-25 years
ago.

Apparently you chose to live on land where there has been wildlife and
you expect them to just move out because you are here?? It's you who
has invaded their domain. They really are not aware of property
lines. You seem to appreciate looking at them from a distance. Why
don't you just move back to the city and watch the animals in the
zoo? Leave the wildlife alone. They were thre first.

Vladimir think you are enviro-nutcake tree hugger, care more about
animal and tree than human. Original poster say that area has lots of
woods, etc. for shelter, living space. No need to encroach on
humans, to tear apart furniture. What does that have to do with
getting food and surviving? Crazy turkey, crazy deer. If human being
tried to live under your deck or violate space of person planting
flowers, you would be on phone in no time calling policemans.

As any enviro-tree hugger, such as myself, will tell you, you are not
separate from nature. If you think you are, then you are the nut case.
What the lady was suggesting was coexistence, or some concession, like a
compost pile where the raccoons could get first dibs on the watermelon
rinds, which might keep them out of your flower beds. I have raccoons
roaming my yard at night, sifting the garden mulch for food. They do
some damage but nothing I can't live with. If worse come to worse, get a
motion activated sprinkler. 'Course, you're gonna forget about it, and
get drenched;O) You're the one with the big, conceptual brain, you
should be able to think of some cooperative strategy to reduce
predations.

Oh, and don't worry, wildlife is getting screwed. Two hundred years ago,
we could live off the land, now we can't. When are YOU going to get
alarmed, when, except for the zoos, the only animals left are pets and
food animals? Our biosphere is dying, and we can only save it, one
raccoon at a time.

Geez...you haven't looked out my back door lately.

I live on 15 acres of nowhereness, northwest of Pittsburgh near the Ohio
line. On any given day, 20 or 30 deer wander by, mostly at the treeline
that abuts the open field of the next parcel, ~150ft behind the house.
Local turkey flocks are positively routine, and I don't mean 5, I mean
30 or 40 at a time. Raccoons aren't too common, but I see them now and
again. This year, there is a family of foxes living in the woods
somewhere just southwest of the house who step now and again into the
yard, generally at dawn or dusk.

The deer congregate most days in what we've long called "town hall",
which is a low hollow inside the treeline on the far side of the power
tower right-of-way, ~200yds due east of the house...except during
hunting season, when they disappear for parts unknown. They figured out
long ago when they need to make themselves scarce.

Then there's the possums that often befriend our cats for playful romps
after dark. Add in the moles and voles that the cats hunt during the
day. I can't say I'm sorry to see our feline Mighty Hunters having
success in that department, as long as they don't bring gifts (or
[worse] half-gifts) into the house. Coyotes avoid the house, but they
are known to live in the woods down near the creek, still on my property
but well toward the northeast corner of it.

No bears these days, at least none that we know of. But small stuff
like toads and whatnot are everywhere.

I could feed my household using nothing but a crossbow, without ever
having to step outside the yard immediately surrounding the house. All
I have to do is wait for the game to show up.

It's a funny view of "the dying biosphere" that some folks have.

Hey Senator Gore,
If you think that the biosphere is dying, look to overpopulation, but
focus on the politically-correct groups that you lefties include on
the "victim" plantation. They're the ones who're ****ing their brains
out.

Actually, all kitchen waste does get thrown into a compost file. You
and your furry friends are welcome to it. That's not the issue,
weenie. What part of "property destruction" do you fail to
comprehend? Also, wildlife that is friendly, showing no fear of
humans, is as a general rule dangerous, especially animals like
whitetail and turkeys that are very skittish usually.

screwing is how the wildlife multiplies. Not to scare you, but, once
upon a time someone got screwed and then there YOU were...

Two hundred years ago,
we could live off the land, now we can't.

Well, Billy, you seem to be suffering from some sort of disconnect,
pining for the old days of living off the land vs not harming wildlife.
Living off the land involves, brace yourself, maybe you should sit down
for this, killing farm animals and wildlife for food. Nowadays most meat
comes from ranches and large livestock yards but even those depend on
"the land" for their food. So, where does *your* food come from, Billy,
Mars?

When are YOU going to get
alarmed, when, except for the zoos, the only animals left are pets and
food animals?

You mean there is a difference???

I recommend the Hamsters - snack size and a really good price.
Just be sure to get the ready-to-eat package - the bbq sauce is
fantastic. Dressing a dozen hamsters is quite tedious...

Little Billy Boy has never been outside his room in mommy's basement by the
sounds of it...I have ALL the above as well bear and moose here in Maine and
I live just 15-20 miles from a couple of cities...I keep the rodents thinned
out as well...Porqupines , skunks , coons , tree rats and the such....You
HAVE to..They are very destructive....I practice S S S (Shoot , Shovel , and
Shutup)...I could easily live off hunting my property and fishing in the
MANY streams in the area and the lake that is a mere 1/4 of a mile
away...LOL...

UV light, skin color linked

Variations due to geography

Associated Press

SAN FRANCISCO - Two San Francisco scientists using data from a NASA
satellite say they have discovered why people come in different colors.

Variations in human skin color are the result of adaptations to the
amount of ultraviolet light from the sun falling on different regions of
Earth, according to Nina Jablonski and George Chaplin, scientists with
the California Academy of Science.

People's bodies change their skin color over time to let in just the
right amount of UV light, which is key to having healthy babies.

UV light affects the skin's production of folate, part of the B vitamin
complex, and vitamin D-3, both of which are essential for having healthy
children.

Folate is necessary for the proper development of the nervous system in
fetuses and for sperm production in adult males. Vitamin D-3 helps build
and maintain strong bones and a healthy immune system.

But too much solar UV light can not only cause skin cancer, it can also
damage those chemicals, thereby hurting a person's chances for
reproductive success.

The scientists' finding may also explain why women tend to be
lighter-skinned than men. Lighter skin lets in more solar UV light,
increasing a woman's vitamin D-3 production, which helps the fetus grow
during pregnancy and helps nourish newborns through breast feeding.

UV light from the sun varies from region to region for reasons including
latitude, humidity and cloudiness.
Jablonski and Chaplin's discovery isn't entirely new. For a long time,
scientists have thought there was a correlation between UV light and
skin color, and they knew the light helped produce vitamin D and that it
could cause cancer.

"But this explanation was considered weak by some scientists because
skin cancer has little or no effect on people's ability to reproduce,
which is really the bottom line of every evolutionary spreadsheet,"
Jablonski said.

Jablonski developed the hypothesis that links UV light to reproduction
in 1991. The scientists analyzed published measurements of human skin
color from around the world and data from NASA's Total Ozone Mapping
Spectrometer satellite, which orbited Earth from 1978 to 1993 and
gathered direct UV measurements for the entire globe to find the
correlation between skin color and UV light.

Jablonski and Chaplin found that dark skin acts as a natural sunscreen
to help prevent UV light from breaking down folate, so it is helpful in
areas with a lot of sun. But in less sunny areas, dark skin screens out
too much sunlight, and can inhibit the production of vitamin D-3, so
lighter skin is helpful for reproductive success.

Skin color is based on the level of melanin, an organic molecule with an
undetermined chemical structure. Those with more melanin have darker
skin, and melanin levels are genetic. But the variations in skin color
are adaptations to solar UV light, not biological differences among
people, according to Jablonski and Chaplin.
"We're all the same under the skin," Jablonski said.

I live on 195 acres of really "nowhereness" - in the traditional "big
woods" hunting area of Northern PA. Except for whoever writes the PGC
hunting outlook articles on their website and people trying to sell
land, I doubt you'd find anyone who claims deer are plentiful here. In my
immediate area there are perhaps 1/3 the number there were ten years ago.

There are several apparent factors, but imo #1 is over-hunting doe.
Even before the PGC extended the rifle season from three to twelve days,
some local hunter landowners were killing as many doe as possible,
particularly targeting the "lead doe" (the older, experienced one in a
group). Typically the landowner would also either plant or buy ear corn
to feed the deer and other wildlife. The strategy was that surviving
younger doe and fawns would be more likely to stay on the owner's land.
The doe fawns were expendable; the primary objective was to grow their own
buck.

To a point this did work, at least in terms of some deer becoming
dependent. But imo what was overlooked was the higher fawn mortality and
the fact that the larger, well nourished doe being killed were the ones
more likely to have and raise fawns that would become large, healthy
bucks. Plus, there is the PSU study that found the majority of buck fawns
are driven from their birth territory by (1) doe in the next Spring and
(2) mature buck that Fall. The black bear population is also in decline
here.

The deer congregate most days in what we've long called "town hall", which
is a low hollow inside the treeline on the far side of the power tower
right-of-way, ~200yds due east of the house...except during hunting

when they need to make themselves scarce.

Then there's the possums that often befriend our cats for playful romps

I can't say I'm sorry to see our feline Mighty Hunters having success in
that department, as long as they don't bring gifts (or [worse] half-gifts)
into the house. Coyotes avoid the house, but they are known to live in
the woods down near the creek, still on my property but well toward the
northeast corner of it.

No bears these days, at least none that we know of. But small stuff like
toads and whatnot are everywhere.

I could feed my household using nothing but a crossbow, without ever
having to step outside the yard immediately surrounding the house. All I
have to do is wait for the game to show up.

But for how long ... assuming everyone else in your deer's range did the
same thing?

It's a funny view of "the dying biosphere" that some folks have.

Yo, whigger, it has nothing to do with skin color. Dark skin shade is
quite attractive; otherwise whitey wouldn't be cooking their asses off
in the sun, risking melanoma, trying to get darker.

Has to do with behavior, my little MTV Obama-swooning afficionado.

Ya know, like in terms of crime, STD, out of wedlock births ...

The President Who Hates His Country

Joan Swirsky

By Joan Swirsky Sunday, May 3, 2009
In the last century, the impassioned words and actions of patriots
like Winston Churchill – along with America’s heroic help and
sacrifice – saved Europe. The eloquence and actions of “I’ve been to
the mountaintop” Martin Luther King Jr. brought America to an
unprecedented level of social justice.

The peerless oratory and tireless diplomacy of the man who would
become Israel’s Foreign Minister, Abba Eban convinced the entire world
that after the wanton murder of six-million Jews in the Holocaust its
straggling survivors deserved their own state of Israel. The inspiring
words and decisive actions of President Ronald Reagan ended the Cold
War, tore down the Berlin Wall, and restored economic prosperity to
America. The efforts of these towering figures resulted in a more
highly-evolved world.

We have also seen the opposite in totalitarian leaders like Hitler,
Mussolini, Fidel Castro, Pol Pot, Mao, and Saddam Hussein, among
others, who exploited their masses, destroyed their economies, brought
havoc, turbulence, grief and massive death within and outside of their
countries, and made the world a more dangerous and threatening place.

The one thing all of these virtuous and evil men had in common was
love for their respective countries, in fact a burning passion that
superseded all else. The virtuous believed in freedom and democracy.
The evil believed in subjugation of their peoples and lifetime tenures
for themselves in order to actualize their goals of conquering their
eternal enemies – Americans and Jews.

Today, we have a new crop of inveterate America- and Jew-haters, among
them the Marxist leader of Venezuela Hugo Chavez, Nicaragua’s
president Daniel Ortega, Iran’s “death-to-America-and-Israel”
study-in-abnormal-psychology Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and the
ever-sabotage-America and anti-Semitic “leaders” of the 22-Arab states
that surround Israel.

I have either read about or observed firsthand all of these people.
Yet in my decades of commenting on the political scene, I cannot
recall a single leader of any country or regime who has ever spoken
negatively of his country or tolerated others speaking ill of the land
or the people he represented

Until now
Bizarre and, yes, repugnant as it is to our essentially centrist
country, America now has a president who has broken that time-honored
tradition. Barack Obama, on the campaign trail and as the leader of
the free world is the first U.S. president to proclaim to anyone
within earshot that he, like his wife, is not proud of his country,
and is all-too-willing to offer serial apologies – for America! – to
Americans and foreigners alike.

As Ed Lasky writes: “We know that during the campaign [Obama] warned
that criticism of his wife was `off-limits’. But criticism of America
– well, that is fine.”

We also know that during his run for the presidency, Obama expressed
sneering condescension towards all those bible-clasping, gun-owning
yahoos who “cling” to those silly things, and that in Europe he
consistently gave voice to America’s supposed “sins.” But all that
pales in comparison to the clear contempt – looks more like hatred to
me – that Obama feels for the United States of America and for its
most revered founding document, the U.S. Constitution.

In just the first 100-days of his tenure, Obama’s words and actions
have demonstrated that he is no friend of the country he leads. This
is only a smattering of what happened on his recent three-continent
trip abroad and to Mexico:

In France, Obama told his audience that America “has shown arrogance
and been dismissive, even derisive” toward Europe.
In Prague, Obama – in true utopian-kindergarten fashion – pledged
“with conviction” that America will “seek the peace and security of a
world without nuclear weapons.” In other words, destroy big bad
America’s ability to defend itself!
In London, Obama made clear that the world’s financial wealth was no
longer made by those inferior leaders Roosevelt and Churchill,
effectively ceding America’s leading role in creating and sharing
wealth to nations that have never measured up to our country’s
bountiful generosity or spirit of free-market entrepreneurship.
In Venezuela, Obama sat passively while the Marxist Chavez handed him
an American-bashing book and delivered another revile-America speech,
while never once rising to defend our country.
In Nicaragua, Obama again sat passively while the Marxist Ortega
blamed the United States for a century of what he called terroristic
U.S. aggression in Central America, again emitting not a whisper of
defense on our country’s behalf.
In Turkey, Obama said – incredibly and inaccurately – that America was
not a Christian nation.
And in his recent trip to Mexico, Obama said that the escalating
border violence was essentially America’s fault.
Scan you memory. Can you think of any other leader in world history
who so consistently badmouths his own country, or fails to defend it?
I can’t.

Wall St. Journal writer Dorothy Rabinowitz notes that Obama “had gone
to Europe not as the voice of his nation, but as a missionary with a
message of atonement for its errors. No sitting American president had
ever delivered indictments of this kind while abroad, or for that
matter at home. When [our allies] see Obama’s moral equivalence, they
realize they are on their own and must cut their own deals to survive
– understanding that multicultural trendiness is now a cynical cover
for moral laxity and ‘can’t we all get along?’

Historian Victor Davis Hanson also noticed something odd about Obama’s
apology tour. “Despite this fresh climate of atonement, there was a
complete absence of a single apology from any other foreign leader…not
a word came from Britain about colonialism…nothing from Germany on the
Holocaust…not a peep from France about Algeria or Vietnam. Turkey was
mum on the Armenian killings…Russia said nothing about the 30 million
murdered by Stalin…Nothing came from China about the 70 million who
perished under Mao…Mr. Medvedev said nothing about Putin’s brutish
rule…We saw no concrete evidence of any help — or hope and change —
from any foreign leader. Zilch.”

In addition, Hanson continues, “We hear nothing about our Gettysburg,
or our entry into World War I. Iwo Jima and the Bulge are never
alluded to. Drawing the line in Korea and forcing the end of the
Soviet monstrosity are taboo subjects. That we pledged the life of New
York for Berlin in the Cold War is unknown. Liberating Afghanistan and
Iraq from the diabolical Taliban and Saddam Hussein is left unsaid.
The Civil Rights movement, the Great Society, affirmative action, and
present billion-dollar foreign-aid programs apparently never existed.
Millions of Africans have been saved by George Bush’s efforts at
extending life-saving medicines to AIDS patients — but again, this is
never referenced.”

Blogger James Lewis says that Obama’s “obsessive need to put down his
own country shows a stunningly ignorant man who has evidently never
spoken to a concentration camp survivor, a Cuban refugee, a boat
person from Vietnam, a Soviet dissident, or a survivor of Mao’s
purges.”

And Media Research Center’s Brent Bozell adds, “Obama `gets’ the
America-haters.”

Abandoning allies, Embracing enemies
“If you are a longtime enemy of the United States, count on a grand
reception from the Obama administration. All is forgiven and, worse,
forgotten,” write Dick Morris and Eileen McGann. “But if you have a
track record as an ally or friend, you won’t get the right time of
day.”

Of course apologists for Obama & Co. point to “progress” in our
foreign policy, ignoring, as Caroline Glick points out, that
“America’s betrayal of its democratic allies makes each of them more
vulnerable to aggression at the hands of their enemies – enemies the
Obama administration is now actively attempting to appease.” Glick
lays out the cold hard facts:

Obama abrogated America’s strategic commitment to the defense of our
ally Japan when his administration reacted to North Korea’s ballistic
missile test by saying the U.S. would only shoot the missile down if
it targeted U.S. territory.
Obama slapped our ally India when he refused to make ending Pakistan’s
support for jihadist terror groups attacking India a central component
of its strategy for contending with Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Obama failed to assure our ally Iraq that democracy and freedom will
be secured before U.S. forces are withdrawn next year.
Obama de facto abandoned our allies in Eastern Europe when he
announced his intention to forge a new alliance with Russia. “The
Czech, Polish, Georgian and Ukrainian governments,” Glick says, “were
quick to recognize that Obama’s strong desire to curry favor with the
Kremlin and weaken his own country will imperil their ability to
withstand Russian aggression.”
Obama “is sacrificing the U.S.’s alliance with our ally Israel “in a
bid to appease the Arabs and Iran by supporting the immediate
establishment of a Palestinian state,” which, Glick warns, “requires
Israel to commit national suicide in exchange for `peace.’” Obama also
made clear “that from the administration’s perspective, an Israeli
strike that prevents Iran from becoming a nuclear power is less
acceptable than a nuclear-armed Iran.” In addition, Obama sent Hamas
$900 million of foreign aid, “channeled through the UNRWA, a United
Nations front filled with Hamas operatives”
Obama slapped our ally England when he returned the bust of Winston
Churchill to Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
Obama slapped our ally Colombia and its president Alvaro Uribe when he
refused to submit the free trade deal with Bogota to the Senate.
“What a great time to be our enemy!” Glick exclaims. “What a terrible
time to be our friend!”

And speaking about appeasing Iran, the Obama administration recently
asked a federal judge to throw out a $6.6-billion class-action lawsuit
against Iran filed by 52 American diplomats and military officials
held hostage for more than a year at the U.S. Embassy in Tehran 30
years ago. Nothing like selling out Americans to make brownie points
with a bloodthirsty dictator!

Barry Rubin explains: “Friends, especially in Europe, are pleased,
applaud, but then add that they don’t have to give this guy anything
because he is all apologies and no toughness. They like the fact that
he is all carrots and no sticks. If, however, they are states more at
risk…they worry that they cannot rely on the United States to help and
defend them. Enemies or potential rivals…say that this guy is weak and
defeated. He apologizes, offers unconditional engagements, and
promises concessions…they’ll eat the carrots and, if possible, their
neighbors as well.”

NY Post writer Ralph Peters, a former military intelligence officer,
sums up the hate-America core tenets of the “Obama Doctrine” as
follows:
(1) We’re to blame,
(2) Problems can be negotiated away,
(3) Problems that can’t be talked out can be bought off,
(4) Islamist terrorism doesn’t exist,
(5) It’s all our fault,
(6) Israel’s the obstacle to Middle East peace,
(7) Our nukes threaten world peace and we need to get rid of them,
(8) Our military is dangerous,
(9) Our intelligence services are even more dangerous than our
military,
(10) It’s only torture if we do it, and
(11) Blame President George W. Bush.

Obama is clearly not satisfied with threatening the safety of our
tried-and-true allies abroad. He is also determined to undermine the
bedrock foundation of America’s security – our military and
intelligence agencies. By disclosing interrogation memos – and
planning to release photographs associated with military probes into
prisoner abuse – he has betrayed every heroic person who risks his or
her life for our country, and unforgivably given aid-and-comfort to
enemies who seethe with virulent anti-Americanism and lust for our
demise. And in the Department of Homeland Security’s infamous memo, he
has called members of our military, among others, potential domestic
terrorists!

“After September 1th, the general outcry was, ‘Why don’t we have
better overseas capabilities?’” said Porter Goss, director of the CIA
from September 2004 to May 2006. “I fear that in the years to come,
this refrain will be heard again. It is certainly not trust that is
fostered when intelligence officers are told one day ‘I have your
back,’ only to learn a day later that a knife is being held to it.”

How horrifying to contemplate that it is the President of the United
States himself who is wielding that back-stabbing knife!

Questioning Obama’s patriotism
Before the November election, legal scholar Henry Mark Holzer wrote –
and scrupulously documented – a stunning indictment of Obama in which
he stated that Obama’s repeatedly professed claim to be a patriot is
“a fraud on the American people – and an insult to the countless true
patriots who, for over two hundred years, have loved and loyally and
zealously supported the United States of America.”

“Patriots,” Holzer concluded, “don’t associate with and derive
sustenance from terrorists, America-haters and anti-Semites; they
don’t countenance fixed elections; they don’t keep secrets from
voters; they don’t intimidate their enemies; they don’t denigrate and
degrade our military; they don’t gratuitously interfere with their
government’s efforts to protect our country; and they don’t disdain
the symbol of this great nation, which for over two centuries men and
women have fought and died: the American flag. Whatever Barack Obama
is, we can be certain that he is no patriot!”

The events that have followed Obama’s election, Holzer says, “have
compounded the proof of the president’s lack of patriotism,” which he
has recently spelled out in a follow-up article. A few of the many
examples he provides of what “a patriotic American president does not
do include:

Bankrupt this country and court massive inflation in order to
implement his vision of a fascist/socialist nation.
Sit on his hands with a straight face while a South American thug
insults his country.
Appoint America-haters to his cabinet.
Cozy up to a soon-to-be-nuclear-armed Iranian madman.
Impotently watch the probably-already-nuclear-armed North Korean
Stalinists lob a ballistic missile across the Pacific.
Fail to stanch the flow of illegal aliens across the Mexican-United
States border.
Cut the defense budget.
Strangle innovation during a serious recession by raising taxes.
Close Guantanamo Bay without a clue of how to handle the enemy
combatants incarcerated there.
Publicly announce what measures military and CIA interrogators can use
to extract information from terrorists.
Apologize to the world for what has made America great and grovel to
persons, nations. and institutions unfit to shine our shoes!
Cede American sovereignty to the American-hating United Nations.
Defy the Second Amendment and a Supreme Court decision by making an
end run that substantially reduces the supply of certain ammunition.
Repudiate the policy and practice of missile shield installation.”
Some dare call it treason
It is one thing to question a president’s patriotism, but even more
serious to accuse him of treason. In an open letter to Obama on
Treason, Walter Francis Fitzpatrick, III (U.S. Naval Academy, Class of
1975) minces no words in accusing the president of sending Army forces
to Samson, Alabama, and Boston in violation of the Constitution. Here
are excerpts of his letter:

“I have observed and extensively recorded invidious attacks by
military-political aristocrats against the Constitution for twenty
years. Now you have broken in and entered the White House by force of
contrivance, concealment, conceit, and deceit. Posing as an imposter
president and commander in chief, you have stripped civilian command
and control over the military establishment…
“We come now to the reckoning. I accuse you and your
military-political criminal assistants of TREASON. I name you and your
military criminal associates as traitors. Your criminal ascension
manifests a clear and present danger. You fundamentally changed our
form of government. The Constitution no longer works….

“I identify you as a foreign-born domestic enemy. You are not my
president. You are not my commander in chief.

Fitzpatrick is not alone. John Smith – a blogger on Townhall.com,
titled a recent article “Obama Is a Traitor.” Commenting on the
president’s release of the “torture” memos, Smith says:

“Given the actions of Barack Obama in recent days, one has to wonder
how many soon-to-be released State secrets have been gathered by
radical left-wing traitors and hidden in the dark recesses of
Washington, awaiting the Manchurian Candidate’s command to publish
them…

“The motivation for Obama’s recent intentional disclosure of Top
Secret CIA memoranda…was an act committed solely to increase his own
political power through appeasement of the radical left…or was it
…guided by the twisted moral imperative uniquely embraced by the Left,
which dictates that only those actions that serve to limit individual
liberty, punish patriotism, and destroy the traditions and culture of
the United States of America are good?…

“Were Obama’s actions motivated by a deeply rooted desire to harm this
Nation?…

“Article III of the Constitution defines Treason against the United
States as “… levying War against them or in adhering to their Enemies,
giving them Aid and Comfort…”.

“Top Secret information is the highest level of classification that we
have on a national level. By definition, such material, if made
public, will cause “exceptionally grave damage” to national security…

“The willful disclosure of Top Secret information is an act of Treason
against the United States….A sitting President of The United States of
America has committed Treason.”

Fitzpatrick and Smith are among a rising tide of voices – in and
outside of the military – who have observed with growing horror
Obama’s proclivity to destroy our capitalist economic system, subvert
the U.S. Constitution, endanger our military and intelligence
services, and obsequiously embrace America’s sworn enemies.

Dr. Jack Wheeler, a consummate Washington insider, goes one step
further. “The evidence that the President of the United States is a
traitor is mounting. The evidence that the President of the United
states is a mortal danger to America’s national security is mounting.
The evidence that the President of the United States will not defend
America from threats and insults from every two-bit fascist dictator
in the world …is not only mounting, it is overwhelming.”

Writer Amy L. Geiger-Hammer states: “I do wonder if Obama should be
called a traitor or just incompetent…does he ever talk about what a
great country America is?”
And UK journalist Gerald Warner echoes that rising tide: “If al-Qaeda,
the Taliban and the rest of the Looney Tunes brigade want to kick
America to death, they had better move in quickly and grab a piece of
the action before Barack Obama finishes the job himself. Never in the
history of the United States has a president worked so actively
against the interests of his own people - not even Jimmy Carter.
Obama’s problem is that he does not know who the enemy is. To him, the
enemy does not squat in caves in Waziristan, clutching automatic
weapons and reciting the more militant verses from the Koran: instead,
it sits around at tea parties in Kentucky quoting from the US
Constitution. “

Is America Lost?
Multiple lawsuits to find proof that Obama is Constitutionally
ineligible to be president are ongoing and will ultimately determine
if he is an American or Kenyan or Indonesian or UK “natural-born”
citizen. To this date, he has spent over a million dollars blocking
the suits about his still-missing birth certificate, and there is
increasing evidence that the birth certificate attested to by
FactCheck.org, FightTheSmears.org, and DailyKos.com are forgeries. And
of course we still have not seen Obama’s Selective Service record,
medical records, multiple visas, college transcripts, et al.

If Obama is proven to be the fraud and interloper many suspect, every
one of his edicts, bills, laws, dictates, Supreme Court selections, et
al, will be overturned , leaving America to cope with serious problems
– under the leadership of the incomprehensible Joe Biden – but nothing
approaching this hate-America president’s far-left socialist domestic
programs and appease-our-enemies foreign policy.

The huge national turnouts at the Tea Parties of April 15 were only
the beginning of a movement that was spurred by ordinary Americans
waking up to Obama’s destruction of our economy, his attempts to
reshape America into a banana republic, the grave damage he’s
inflicted on our military and intelligence services, and his unsavory
predilection for embracing our enemies and apologizing non-stop for
the most magnificent nation on earth.

In short, they are waking up to the president who hates his country.

Editor Charlotte Baker predicts that “the Tea Parties and other, more
aggressive, protests will grow exponentially, and that the Obama
juggernaut can and will be stopped.” It’s crucial, she says, “for all
Americans to recall the history they learned in school – at least
before the Left hijacked what used to be known as `education.’ The
Europeans, Japanese and Russians were all taken over by one form or
another of totalitarianism because their combined history was one of
absolute rulers – kings, czars and `divine’ emperors. They were
totally conditioned to tyranny.

“But the monstrous anti-American gang that rigged the voting system on
November 4, 2008– as they do routinely in Obama’s Chicago Machine
politics – to push Obama into We-the-People’s White House, have shown
– even before his inauguration – the kind of overreaching that
arrogant tyrants always demonstrate. Hitler, Mao, Tojo and Stalin all
got away with overreaching, but they weren’t brutalizing Americans.

“Tolerating totalitarianism is simply not in the genetic code – the
DNA – of Americans!” Baker adds. “Freedom and Liberty run in our
blood!”

Geez...you haven't looked out my back door lately.

I live on 15 acres of nowhereness, northwest of Pittsburgh near the
Ohio line.

Where you live is your choice. You made the decision whether you bought it
yourself or whether you inherited it and decided to stay there rather than
sell.

The wildlife do not have the luxury of 'deciding' where to live. They were
born there.

It's a funny view of "the dying biosphere" that some folks have.

Indeed. A biosphere can apply just to a tiddling place such as where you
live or it can apply to the whole planet.

You seem to think that just because you see a lot of biodiversity that it
will always be there. It won't and you would know that if you took an
interest in either history or environmental issues.

It's tiring to see this failed mode of argument.

How many humans were born here? That is, how many were born to families
living right in this area, even right up my own road?

Rather a lot.

There is no "who was here first" argument to be made. My family is the
2nd-newest inhabitant of a home on this road, and we've already been
here a decade. Most of the families up my road have been here literally
all their lives, right down to Nasty Ron, the retired old man with the
bad attitude halfway between us and the main road, who thinks that
everybody else here is some sort of johnny-come-lately carpetbagger.

Animal populations migrate -- they do indeed decide where to live. They
just do it on a different scale and motivation.

You seem to think that just because you see a lot of biodiversity that
it will always be there. It won't and you would know that if you took

Oh, I take an /interest/ in them, all right. I just don't buy the lie
that everything is dying.

There are *more* deer in the area now than there were a dozen years ago.
And it was some years back that I read a report from PGC making the case
that there are more deer in Pennsylvania now than there ever have been,
throughout all of history, primarily because their only predator is man,
and we've legislated ourselves into non-combatant status via seasonal
hunting. The fact that spotty overhunting occurs, such as Ann claims,
does not reflect on the whole state. Does no one else read the
occasional reports about the need for actual herd culling in municipal
and state parks, due to deer overpopulation and their consequent
tendency to move out of desirable habitat, into more human-controlled
spaces, causing no end of difficulty such as dramatically increased
number of car crashes? Last summer, here in rural Beaver county, there
was a local problem of excess Canadian geese that inhabit Brady Run.
Weirdly, for a place where hunting and culling is normally respected,
there was a lot of argumentation over whether to off a few dozen birds.

It's interesting to see that when someone like me makes an observation
about my area, the cry goes up, "That is a local effect only! The
bigger picture is horrible!" But if those others make an observation
about (just to pull an example out of the air) overhunting in their
area, and claim extrapolation to The Greater Everywhere, no one is
allowed to make the contrary argument, "You have a local effect only,
the rest of the state is fine." It's a fun double standard to watch.

The fact that I make these observations about my "tiddling place" does
not restrict their validity to only these few small acres of my
"tiddling place." I make my observations so as to provide a context in
which to be able to make a reasonable claim that there is an
(over)abundance of wildlife all around me (e.g. the state game lands a
few miles away are chock full of critters), throughout the whole area of
western Pennsylvania outside the cities, not /just/ on my "tiddling
place," and that there is precious little actual risk to the whole. I

As to Ann's whine about what would happen if everyone hunted the local
wildlife to feed their households... The question is inapposite, as the
whole point is that all this wildlife just goes through their merry
lives with seasonal hunting only. Generally speaking, modern humans in
North America don't actually feed their households by hunting; by far,
most folks get their meat from a grocer or butcher, neatly insulated
from the inconvenient ickiness of killing their own. It was merely the
observation that I could do so (and phrased just as such), not a claim
that it is happening, or should happen, or is about to begin.

For kicks, just now I went surfing for info on Pennsylvania deer
population. The following may be the report I referenced above, but
it's been so many years since I first saw it (this is dated 1991) that
it could be just another in a long series of similar reports. I haven't
yet taken the time to read it fully.

"The Need and Difficulty of Bringing the Pennsylvania Deer Herd Under Control"

| Abstract: The Pennsylvania white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus)
| herd has increased dramatically in the last several years despite
| greatly increased harvests. The high statewide deer density (11+
| deer/km) causes serious losses to agricultural production, forest
| regeneration, and diversity of forest flora and fauna. High deer
| numbers are associated with an excess number of vehicle-deer
| accidents, and is implicated in the rapid increase in the incidence of
| Lyme disease in humans. Efforts to reduce deer densities locally and
| statewide (extended antlerless harvest seasons and special farm hunts)
| are not solving the damage problem. Other solutions should be
| considered, such as increasing the bag limit of antlerless deer,
| increasing hunting willingness to harvest more deer through hunter
| education programs, resolving land access problems, and developing m
| appropriate deer management units. Deer managers must be aware of the
| limitations of conventional harvest strategy to resolving deer damage
| problems, and of the need for improvisation to meet management needs.

There is no current risk of impending doom *at all* to Pennsylvania's
wildlife, least of all to deer.

You (and Ann) have mere local effects. I have the general observation,
supported anecdotally in my area, but then more fully supported with
actual studies by the sorts of people who track and manage such
questions for a living.

RACCOONS: dig up the old lady's annual flower garden, **** all over
the decks, and tear up the cushions on deck furniture. Why? On three
sides of this property, there are woods, farmland, ponds, and streams
.... a wildlife paradise; yet they sometimes get on the roof and try
to access the house.

Young turkey vultures are friendly

high degree of surgical skill extracting a brain from a deceased
woodchuck or raccoon through the decedent's eye sockets. Interesting

of bugs but they suddenly and mysteriously disappeared 20-25 years

Just my observations on white-tailed deer in my area of the woods. The
"wild" ones are real skittish, can't get within 50 yards of them while on
foot. The "tame" ones that inhabit the rural town nearby are much less
likely to run off if a person on foot approaches. Some will let you touch
them in fact. Apparently, some of the local inhabitants feed these deer
frequently with corn, dry dog food, and anything else the deer will eat.
These deer, I would hardly call "wildlife" in the strictest sense.

Behavior modification isn't unusal when acting a a food source. That
appears to be what happened to the deer in your story. Going under a pier
and beam home, or attached deck (no skirt) is not likely for even injured,
wild white-tailed deer.

Aren't you the master of spotting the conspicuously obvious.

Animals that have been free, and then are killed and eaten isn't what we
were talking about. We were talking about what passes for a man these
days, who plans to poison a flower fancying raccoon, and then leaving it
to rot. In my opinion, the sooner the cockroaches take over, the better
it will be for the planet.

Deep Fried Raccoon

~ 1 raccoon, cleaned
~ 1 lb bacon
~ seasoning salt
~ pepper
~ your favorite batter
~ oil

Make sure all the fat and glands are removed from the coon.

Stuff the bacon inside the coon. Season to taste with seasoning salt and
pepper.

Pour on the batter and shake to create a thin layer all over.

Add to hot oil in a Dutch oven, fish fryer or turkey fryer.

Cook until golden brown. Remove and drain.

Allow to cool a few minutes before slicing.

Also didn't mention the occasional field mouse who gets in.

As for the gray squirrel, his presence has been only a minor nuisance,
digging small holes to bury / retrieve black walnuts and acorns.

You are a lucky man Karl, and I hope your luck holds. 50 years ago,
there were 3 billion people on this planet. Now there are 6 billion. In
40 years there will be 9 billion. I've heard 9 billion to be the max,

It won't and you would know that if you took
an interest in either history or environmental issues.

I haven't
yet taken the time to read it fully.

http://digitalcommons.unl.edu/cgi/vi...context=ewdcc5

The problem is that you are thinking in "three score and ten" units
instead of with a geological perspective.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extinct...ass_extinction
According to a 1998 survey of 400 biologists conducted by New York's
American Museum of Natural History, nearly 70 percent believed that they
were currently in the early stages of a human-caused mass
extinction,[22] known as the Holocene extinction event. In that survey,
the same proportion of respondents agreed with the prediction that up to
20 percent of all living populations could become extinct within 30
years (by 2028). Biologist E. O. Wilson estimated [5] in 2002 that if
current rates of human destruction of the biosphere continue, one-half
of all species of life on earth will be extinct in 100 years.[23] More
significantly the rate of species extinctions at present is estimated at
100 to 1000 times "background" or average extinction rates in the
evolutionary time scale of planet Earth.[24]

Play with this, weenie:

Billy has bought into the hoax.

Happy to edify.

How A Clinton-Era Rule Rewrite Made Subprime Crisis Inevitable
By TERRY JONES
INVESTOR'S BUSINESS DAILY | Posted Wednesday, September 24, 2008 4:30
PM PT

One of the most frequently asked questions about the subprime market
meltdown and housing crisis is: How did the government get so deeply
involved in the housing market?

The answer is: President Clinton wanted it that way.

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, even into the early 1990s, weren't the
juggernauts they'd later be.

While President Carter in 1977 signed the Community Reinvestment Act,
which pushed Fannie and Freddie to aggressively lend to minority
communities, it was Clinton who supercharged the process. After
entering office in 1993, he extensively rewrote Fannie's and Freddie's
rules.

In so doing, he turned the two quasi-private, mortgage-funding firms
into a semi-nationalized monopoly that dispensed cash to markets, made
loans to large Democratic voting blocs and handed favors, jobs and
money to political allies. This potent mix led inevitably to
corruption and the Fannie-Freddie collapse.

Despite warnings of trouble at Fannie and Freddie, in 1994 Clinton
unveiled his National Homeownership Strategy, which broadened the CRA
in ways Congress never intended.

Addressing the National Association of Realtors that year, Clinton
bluntly told the group that "more Americans should own their own
homes." He meant it.

Clinton saw homeownership as a way to open the door for blacks and
other minorities to enter the middle class.

Though well-intended, the problem was that Congress was about to
change hands, from the Democrats to the Republicans. Rather than
submit legislation that the GOP-led Congress was almost sure to
reject, Clinton ordered Robert Rubin's Treasury Department to rewrite
the rules in 1995.

The rewrite, as City Journal noted back in 2000, "made getting a
satisfactory CRA rating harder." Banks were given strict new numerical
quotas and measures for the level of "diversity" in their loan
portfolios. Getting a good CRA rating was key for a bank that wanted
to expand or merge with another.

Loans started being made on the basis of race, and often little else.

"Bank examiners would use federal home-loan data, broken down by
neighborhood, income group and race, to rate banks on performance,"
wrote Howard Husock, a scholar at the Manhattan Institute.

But those rules weren't enough.

Clinton got the Department of Housing and Urban Development to
double-team the issue. That would later prove disastrous.

Clinton's HUD secretary, Andrew Cuomo, "made a series of decisions
between 1997 and 2001 that gave birth to the country's current
crisis," the liberal Village Voice noted. Among those decisions were
changes that let Fannie and Freddie get into subprime loan markets in
a big way.

Other rule changes gave Fannie and Freddie extraordinary leverage,
allowing them to hold just 2.5% of capital to back their investments,
vs. 10% for banks.

Since they could borrow at lower rates than banks due to implicit
government guarantees for their debt, the government-sponsored
enterprises boomed.

With incentives in place, banks poured billions of dollars of loans
into poor communities, often "no doc" and "no income" loans that
required no money down and no verification of income.

By 2007, Fannie and Freddie owned or guaranteed nearly half of the $12
trillion U.S. mortgage market — a staggering exposure.

Worse still was the cronyism.

Fannie and Freddie became home to out-of-work politicians, mostly
Clinton Democrats. An informal survey of their top officials shows a
roughly 2-to-1 dominance of Democrats over Republicans.

Then there were the campaign donations. From 1989 to 2008, some 384
politicians got their tip jars filled by Fannie and Freddie.

Over that time, the two GSEs spent $200 million on lobbying and
political activities. Their charitable foundations dropped millions
more on think tanks and radical community groups.

Did it work? Well, if measured by the goal of putting more poor people
into homes, the answer would have to be yes.

From 1995 to 2005, a Harvard study shows, minorities made up 49% of
the 12.5 million new homeowners.

The problem is that many of those loans have now gone bad, and
minority homeownership rates are shrinking fast.

Fannie and Freddie, with their massive loan portfolios stuffed with
securitized mortgage-backed paper created from subprime loans, are a
failed legacy of the Clinton era.

http://beltwaysnark.com/2008/09/16/j...-proposal-for-
an-agency-to-oversee-fannie-and-freddiein-2005/

In Sept. 2003 President Bush proposed a new agency to oversee
regulatory
reforms of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Here is an excerpt form the
above
linked article from Sept. 11, 2003.

The Bush administration today recommended the most significant
regulatory overhaul in the housing finance industry since the savings
and loan crisis a decade ago.

Under the plan, disclosed at a Congressional hearing today, a new
agency
would be created within the Treasury Department to assume supervision
of
Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the government-sponsored companies that
are
the two largest players in the mortgage lending industry.

The new agency would have the authority, which now rests with
Congress,
to set one of the two capital-reserve requirements for the companies.
It
would exercise authority over any new lines of business. And it would
determine whether the two are adequately managing the risks of their
ballooning portfolios.

The plan is an acknowledgment by the administration that oversight of
Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac — which together have issued more than $1.5

trillion in outstanding debt — is broken. A report by outside
investigators in July concluded that Freddie Mac manipulated its
accounting to mislead investors, and critics have said Fannie Mae does

not adequately hedge against rising interest rates.

Then in 2005 John McCain co-sponsored the Federal Housing Enterprise
Regulatory Reform Act of 2005.

The Bill was never passed. John McCain addressed the floor on May
26th,
2006. Here is an excerpt:

I join as a cosponsor of the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory
Reform Act of 2005, S. 190, to underscore my support for quick passage

of GSE regulatory reform legislation. If Congress does not act,
American
taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie

Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial
system, and the economy as a whole.

I urge my colleagues to support swift action on this GSE reform
legislation.

This bill was shot down by the Democrats and some Republicans in
Congress.

John McCain fought two years ago to shield the American people from
the
crisis some of us are facing.

What was Barack’s vote??

Play with this, weenie:

“Freedom and Liberty run in our
blood!”

Oh, I take an /interest/ in them, all right. I just don't buy the lie
that everything is dying.

There are *more* deer in the area now than there were a dozen years ago.
And it was some years back that I read a report from PGC making the case
that there are more deer in Pennsylvania now than there ever have been,
throughout all of history, primarily because their only predator is man,
and we've legislated ourselves into non-combatant status via seasonal
hunting.

With the exception of Sundays and 12 days ending on Christmas, the
statewide deer seasons in 2008-2009 ran from Oct.4 through Jan. 10.

The fact that spotty overhunting occurs, such as Ann claims,
does not reflect on the whole state.

What I wrote was: "I live ... in the traditional "big woods" hunting area
of Northern PA." That's not an insignificant, "spot" region when
discussing PA wildlife resources.

Does no one else read the occasional
reports about the need for actual herd culling in municipal and state
parks, due to deer overpopulation and their consequent tendency to move
out of desirable habitat, into more human-controlled spaces,

Those "human-controlled spaces" must be desirable or the deer wouldn't
feed there.

causing no
end of difficulty such as dramatically increased number of car crashes?

No reasonable person would deny that - particularly in the 'burbs -
deer/vehicle collisions are a problem. Probably the Erie Insurance
company has done the most to actually study the causes and inform its
policy holders.

The two week rifle deer season is part of the problem:

"Drivers should be extremely alert for deer while driving in November,
which is peak mating season for deer and a time when a large number of
deer claims occur. In Pennsylvania, the two-week hunting season that
begins the Monday after Thanksgiving, is also a time when a large number
of deer claims occur, particularly on opening day and the first Saturday
of the season."

http://auto.erieinsurance.com/Deer-car-crashes.aspx

Last summer, here in rural Beaver county, there was a local problem of
excess Canadian geese that inhabit Brady Run. Weirdly, for a place where
hunting and culling is normally respected, there was a lot of
argumentation over whether to off a few dozen birds.

I'm going to assume that's tongue-in-cheek. A search of the
Tribune-Review archives produces a number of articles about Canada Geese
being "dealt with" in your area. Of course procedure does have to be
followed; they are protected under the Migratory Bird Act.

Have you forgotten that you wrote: "The fact that spotty overhunting
occurs, such as Ann claims, does not reflect on the whole state." You at
least seem to be claiming that what you observe in your area is the norm.

The exchange was:

Karl wrote:

"I could feed my household using nothing but a crossbow, without ever
having to step outside the yard immediately surrounding the house. All
I have to do is wait for the game to show up."

Ann wrote:

"But for how long ... assuming everyone else in your deer's range did the
same thing?"

It wasn't a "whine", just pointing out how ridiculous your claim that you
"could feed your household" was.

For kicks, just now I went surfing for info on Pennsylvania deer
population. The following may be the report I referenced above, but
it's been so many years since I first saw it (this is dated 1991) that
it could be just another in a long series of similar reports. I haven't
yet taken the time to read it fully.

http://digitalcommons.unl.edu/cgi/vi...context=ewdcc5

"The Need and Difficulty of Bringing the Pennsylvania Deer Herd Under
Control"

...

There is no current risk of impending doom *at all* to Pennsylvania's
wildlife, least of all to deer.

You're kidding; that report is based on 1981-1990 data. One of the authors
is from the Warren lab (ANF) and if you look at their later work, you'll
find that some of the tree regeneration problem they attributed to deer is
in fact due to exhaustion of soil buffering capacity due to acid rain.

You (and Ann) have mere local effects. I have the general observation,
supported anecdotally in my area, but then more fully supported with
actual studies by the sorts of people who track and manage such
questions for a living.

Depends on what you call "local effects". My observation of deer numbers
parallels that of hunters in my (Tioga) and adjoining counties, many of
whom hunt public lands. According to what I've found, about 4% of Beaver
County is public land; three Game Lands and one State Park, for a total of
19 square miles - the largest of which is Raccoon Creek State Park (7,572
acres). By contrast, about 30% of Tioga County is public land; one State
Forest, four Game Lands, the COE holdings, and several State Parks, for a
total of 341 square miles - the largest of which is Tioga State Forest
(160,000 acres).

If you have any interest at all in the opinion of hunters, see the United
Sportsmen of Pennsylvania website:

http://www.unifiedsportsmenpa.org/

The organization has sued the PGC, claiming it has mismanaged the deer on
public land, because: "The PGC does not have a credible system for
determining deer harvests, and consequently does not have an accurate
count of how many deer actually exist in the Commonwealth."

You might also Google for PA hunter web forums,

Disclaimer: No, I haven't or am not now predicting the imminent demise
of the white-tail deer in PA.

The foregoing article however manages to point out rather clearly so
many of the things that previously were done wrong and badly during
previous administrations. Whether it was falsely started wars (Iran,
Afghanistan) or poor financial industry controls that led to the
credit crisis, sour debts and scandals such as Enron, Madeoff etc.
Limitation of civil freedoms? Poor USA!!!!!

Obama has inherited quite a mess (and that's an understatement) from
his predecessors!

The thought of the USA looking back fondly or thinking it was
successful during an era when it was "Shoot first" and worry about the
consequences afterwards; or a "Let's Nuke em" attitude, hasn't
worked!

And don't let's pretend the Viet Nam war was a success! In fact it's
doubtful if the USA has won any of the wars it has itself started?

Obama comes across as a realist; often telling it like it really is.
With doses of realism; not airy-fairy images of the way it used to be!
Maybe some don't like the truth?

It also appears the USA has not, for a long time, realised that it is
not and will not always be, 'The only game in town (the world)'.

What the US still does have is some (supposed) fundamental values
about hard work, family values, home ownership and place in community
etc. Although social and financial ethics have taken quite a beating.
But the USA or it's individual states does not back this up with good
social programmes and public care. And forget any of the forced
extremist Christianity cults; they are just as biased and intolerant
(and possibly dangerous when leaders think they are going on a
crusade!) as any other extreme religious format. Keep religion out of
government for God's sake (pun intended!).

How many US millions is it that don't have medical/drug care? Much
smaller (sometimes with less than the tenth of the US population) and
therefore smaller resourced countries have much better systems (some
would call them 'socialist' as though that were a bad word!) and do
much better job of providing incentives for a healthier and more
productive population.

Also there is still something of a dog-eat-dog attitude although most
individual Americans are sensible helpful people! Maybe a sort of "If
I have the biggest/fastest gun I have every right to shoot the last
deer/elk/moose/bear etc.". How the West was won; i.e. stolen from the
Aboriginals and from Mexico!

Maybe some serious navel gazing is in order? That marvellous
expression from some US president, "Walk softly but carry a big stick"
comes to mind.

Good luck to all from somewhere else in the world!

The things you don’t read about Barack Obama

Sat. May 2 - 5:46 AM

(...)

So here is a small selection of news on the most powerful man on Earth
which has been deemed unfit to print:

•Obama’s first two major bills alone, the "stimulus" and "omnibus,"
cost nearly twice as much as was spent on Iraq over six years – $1.2
trillion vs. $650 billion.

•Obama abandoned his campaign promise of "a net spending cut," his
first annual deficit – not counting bailouts – being three times the
worst deficit under President George W. Bush.

•Obama’s objective in his first G20 summit – commitments to spend our
way to prosperity with massive stimulus boondoggles across the G20 –
was rejected out of hand.

•Obama’s objective in his first NATO summit – commitments to combat
troops for Afghanistan from "our European allies," which Obama and his
party imagined were ready and willing to fight if only someone
"enlightened" like him were running things – was predictably refused,
with some more European non-combat contingents offered as a token.

•Obama’s Defence Department announced cuts of $1.4 billion to missile
defence, the day after North Korea test-fired its long-range,
multi-stage ballistic missile.

•Obama’s economics were criticized by Warren Buffet, whose endorsement
had been candidate Obama’s highest economic credential.

•Obama reversed the free trade Bush policy that had allowed about 100
Mexican tractor-trailers into the United States, which the Mexican
government immediately used as an excuse to levy tariffs on 90
American goods amounting to $2.4 billion in U.S. exports.

•Obama’s "tax cuts for 95 per cent" turned out to mean $13 a week from
June to December, to be clawed back to $8 a week in January – as
compared with President Bush’s 2008 tax rebates of $600 to $1,200 plus
$300 per child, which were notably scoffed at during the election
campaign by Michelle Obama.

•Obama’s campaign promise of a $3,000-per-employee tax credit for
businesses that hired new workers – repeated ad nauseam for weeks
before the election – was discreetly retired even before inauguration
day.

•Obama abandoned his campaign promise that "lobbyists won’t work in my
White House," waiving his no-lobbyist executive order or conveniently
re-defining his appointees’ past lobbying work to allow 30 lobbyists
into his administration.

•Obama abandoned his campaign promise to reform earmarks, signing the
omnibus bill which contained 8,816 of them.

•Obama took more money from AIG than any other politician in 2008 –
over $100,000 – and signed into law the provision guaranteeing the AIG
bonuses which later had him in front of the cameras "shaking with
outrage" and siccing the pitchfork crowd on law-abiding citizens who
had fulfilled their end of a contract and had their payment upheld by
Obama’s own legislation.

Why should these points, and many more like them, have to be made by
some obscure contributor to The Chronicle Herald’s opinion pages?

Fox News Channel is the butt of jokes and the target of attacks like
no other media outlet in the English-speaking world, not least by
people who fancy themselves the guardians of a free press. But Fox
News is today the lone television news service in the English-speaking
world capable of serious skepticism and scrutiny of the sitting
president and the Congress of the United States.

Fox News is also the second most-watched channel in all American cable
television. It long ago became by far the most-watched cable news
channel; more Americans watched Fox News than CNN and MSNBC combined
in every time slot from 6 a.m. to midnight in April. Now, while The
New York Times is $1.3 billion in debt, Fox has expanded its
operations with a business channel and a juggernaut Internet presence.

There’s a lesson there, though Fox News will be just as well pleased
if the impeccably "mainstream" news business remains clueless about
it.

The people need a Fourth Estate, not yet another adulator of Barack
Obama, yet another smearer of Sarah Palin, yet another patrician
editor to keep out anything disagreeable to progressive sensibilities,
yet another laptop-and-latte journalism-schooler to spit on everything
pre-dating 1968. And they wonder why the news business has come on
hard times.

It also appears the USA has not, for a long time, realised that it is
not and will not always be, 'The only game in town (the world)'.

Problem with the USA is that she gives a **** what everyone else
thinks.

What the US still does have is some (supposed) fundamental values

much better job of providing incentives for a healthier and more
productive population.

Hey, we've heard the horror tales about Brit health care.

No t'anks.

Yeah, **** happens, dunnit.

If not for civilization, the abos would still be communicating with
smoke, pooping in holes, and dying at the ripe old age of 33.

Maybe some serious navel gazing is in order? That marvellous
expression from some US president, "Walk softly but carry a big stick"
comes to mind.

Good luck to all from somewhere else in the world!

**** off, comrade, we don't want ya wishes.

When are YOU going to get alarmed, when, except for the zoos, the only

Billy has bought into the hoax.

And your cite that it is a hoax is . . .?

Billy has read the numbers and understand them.

Billy believes that global warming is man-made; man can reverse it;
and if man doesn't reverse it, will be necessarily catastrophic.

Speaking for myself, I don't like the out look.
You didn't look at

"Impact from the Deep", did you?

Bill has drunk the Goron Kool-Aid.

I don't talk Neo-Nutcake. What are you trying to say?

Billy doesn't know that there is no longer a consensus.

Citation please.

Billy doesn't know that the global temp has dropped .74 since "An
Inconvenient Truth."

Cite please.

Happy to edify.

Let me know when you do that.
In the meantime the Union of Concerned Scientists
(you remember them, they were right about the ozone hole,

and "acid rain".
http://www.ucsusa.org/clean_energy/coalvswind/c02c.html )
really don't like "Global Warming" that much either.

learn by observation. The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and
