Is this a static weight or does the machine present a dynamic load due to moving parts and vibrations? |

Proper cross bracing will spread the weight on adjacent joists. If you have
concerns, why not double up the joists under the equipment. First off, 30" x 26" (5.4 sq. ft.) is not a large area, so it would be considered a point load. Now, what is "very heavy"? Some people would consider 500# very heavy, though it's equal to a couple large people standing together. 2,000# would reasonably be considered very heavy. Next, what other loads are on this section of floor? Is the underside accessible for providing additional support? Is there height available for a load spreading structure between the equipment and the floor? How about dynamic load like someone else mentioned? Big difference between a welder and a punch press as far as dynamic loading. |
