Default How to Lower Bed or Put it on the Floor?

I have had a bedroom set for over 10 years and it is very nice,
however the bed is high off the ground. It takes a 2 step (original
furniture that came with the set) to get into the bed. It was ok
while I was young, but now that I am getting older I don't want to
climb into bed and would probably break a limb if I accidently fell
out. Anyway, any suggestions on how the bed could be lowered, without
damaging the furniture or should I put the box springs on the floor?
I like the furniture and we not want to sell. Thanks

Picture might help. You might be able to lower whatever holds the box
spring on the inside of the
frame. Depending on the type of frame, there are sometimes hooks on the
side panel of the
frame that hook onto a series of hangers on the foot- and head-board.

True, Norminn, but these are a matched male/ female set with no allowance
for height adjustment. I initially thought of how a crib set performs this
function but there isn't anything out there like that, but I did find this.
http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?p...ter=bed%20rail While you
*will* have to drill new holes in your corner posts to mount them lower it
could be the least damaging option out there. If you have a Rockler store
nearby you may be able to see them but don't count on that. You had better
call first and see if they have that particular catalog number on hand.
Here's another item from another company.

Just loose the box springs...you'll never miss them.

Second this. Box springs are worthless and add no comfort.

Easy for you skinny people to say- I can tell the difference. Besides,
the box springs also protect the mattress, so it doesn't stay fully
compressed under the pressure points.

Then get a thicker mattress when you ditch the box springs. I don't think
I've EVER had a bed with box springs, except maybe when staying in a hotel.

It's also a good idea to turn or rotate the mattress every year or so.

Yes.

Then there's "breath" for "breathe".

Like accept/except.

I know someone who used to work in a university admissions office. She
once told me about a student who was accepted but didn't go there,
writing saying she was "excepted" somewhere else.

One I really don't like is "prescription". It does not begin the same
way as "perspiration" (it's PRE-).

And loan/lend. "Loan" is a noun, "lend" is a verb. You cannot "loan" someone
something but you can "lend" it.

Also apprised/appraised and cognitive/cognizant. I had a boss who always
used the wrong one. I was frequently asked to "keep him appraised" and to be
"cognitive of the needs of our clients." I used to cringe when he did it in
meetings, although I'm not sure most people noticed. Yikes.

The noun/verb idiocy we see virtually daily in a.h.r. is advice/advise.
That surprises me because I don't think people confuse the two in
speech. The spelling matches the pronunciation, so if someone merely
read his own writing aloud, wouldn't he be able to distinguish the two?

"Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo."

A grammatically correct sentence used as an example of how homonyms
and homophones can be used to create complicated constructs. Google it.

Forget the homo-what you may call its.

Back on topic.

We bought a new set (box spring and mattress) recently. Noticing how
deep the two items are elected to put it on the carpeted floor.

Advantages: You don't need one of those metal 'bed frame things with
large casters on each corner, etc.) They so often stick out and are a
hazard to feet, especially bare ones! There is no space under the bed
which can accumulate dust/cobwebs etc.
Bed including the central wooden 'spine' of the box spring is firmly
supported directly on the floor. Not on the central metal piece of
aforementioned 'bed frame'.

Disadvantages:There is no toe space around the bed, so until one
learns not to stub toe getting into bed! The lack of space (gap) under
is loss of storage space. We found an unused kitchen table and its
legs laid flat and also a tin box with some older money under the old
bed! Which now have to be stored elsewhere!

Son bought a new bed almost same time, but it came with bed frame
included; won't say 'free bed-frame' although Sears advertise it as
such! But his cost quite a bit more than ours which appears to be the
almost the same product, but from a big box store?

So FWIW; put the bottom of the box-spring on the floor and save a few
(maybe about six) inches of height. Age 75 here no problems, in on or
out of bed!
