Heating question - TACO Cartridge Circulator

I have a newish gas forced hot water heating system that is talking
hours to move the temp in the house a few degrees. The house it
small, 1000 sf, and tight and it is only 30 degrees out.

My heating system has one Taco cartridge circulator 007-F5 and the
body of the cartridge is extremely hot and it is silent except for a
little hum on the electrical control. It is placed on the return side
of the line and there the line is warm but not hot. The radiators are
warm but not hot.

Is this normal?

Thanks

Those circulators do get really hot and there's no way to physically tell,
by vibrations, if they are circulating. Assuming that the house is just one
zone, with one circulator, and the pump is returning water to the boiler:
After a couple of minutes at most, the pipe between the circulator and the
boiler should be at about the same temp as the boiler. There may be air in
the system, or possibly the boiler temp is set to low

How new is new, you have a warranty, what is boiler temp, find out if
the pump runs. Turn down the aquastat on the boiler after the boiler
is hot, as low as it goes, lower than the boiler temp but keep the
thermostat calling for heat so the boiler doesnt fire but pump will
run. Bleed radiators and be sure pump is pumping.

Could be a few things.

Yes, the motor will get reasonably hot both from running and from the hot
water that should be going through it. The 07 is a very popular and
reliable circulator. Do you feel it running? The hum can be the noise of
the pump, or it could be the noise of a stalled motor.

Is the water feed to the boiler open? If not, it may be low on water and
the pump is just spinning and not moving any water. If the circulator is
bad, it is a quick change to a new one. Taco is good, but there are other
brands that will fit in the same space. Just be sure if the electrical
conection is in a idfferent place there is no obstructin the way it is
mounted.
