James-
For getting paint to stick to galvanized steel for outdoor service

I use Jasco Prep & Prime
http://www.homaxproducts.com/product.../08/index.html (I get
it at the local Ace Hardware)

followed by Rustoleum clean metal primer & then a top coat.

For indoor service you could skip the Jasco & just wipe down with
acetone and then just prime & paint.

cheers
Bob

Rustoleum

Naw, Rustoleum has not been a quality product for years. Not since the
reformulated for the mass market.

Better choice is either Rust-Bullet (very good) or POR-15 top coat.
Both are going to cure rock hard, and be indestructable once cured.
Neither is as easy to use or work with as Rustoleum but they will last
much longer and provide much better protection.
