Default This Tub Pop-Up Is For Bald Families Only

Just a suggestion:

If you have hair, or if anyone in your family has hair, do not use a
foot activated pop-up in your bathtub.

I installed one in my new tub and at least once a month I had to
disassemble the unit to clear the slimy mass of hair from the cross
bars under the pop-up. I have 2 teenage girls and a wife with average
length hair. I don't use that tub too often so I wouldn't know about
it until they'd tell me how much they hate the new tub 'cuz it's
backing up *again*.

After the third time disassembling it (tools required) I decided I
didn't want to be a slave to my drain any longer and I replaced it
with a lever operated pop-up with a screen on top. Now the girls clear
the hair themselves giving me more time to fix the *other* things that
they complain about.

What the heck is a "foot activated pop-up"? Is it somesort of drain?- Hide quoted text -

A pop-up is the drain stopper in a sink or tub. Most (?) are lever,
cable or rod activated. You pulled the rod, the stopper goes down,
etc.

See he http://www.remodelguide.com/improve/...ups_works.html

Some high-style ones are foot activated so you can can open and close
it with your foot. All the spring loaded moving parts are right in the
drain with no rods or linkages.

The problem is that the hair goes past the stopper when it's open and
gets caught in the cross bars of the drain. The hair clog keeps
building up until you have to unscrew the stopper and use needle nose
pliers to grab the soap-scum covered hair. Beside being gross, it's a
pain to take the unit apart
