Inside Molding anchors Window.

I just pulled out a 36"by72" window and was suprised to see that it
was anchored in place by the inside molding. Was this a 70's
construction technique?

Yes, but only by shoddy contractors. Was this in an existing frame? It may
have been a replacement window that goes in after you remove the original
sashes. You set in the replacement assembly, then you are supposed to screw
it into the sides and header before replacing the sash bead.

I used to install those windows and it took 20 to 30 minutes per window to
do it right. The method you founds saves quite a bit of time and the owner
would not discover the problem until you were long gone.

Good grief! I thought my old house was bad - interior doors held up
with molding all that held them (until the kids had a fight, from
opposite sides of the door)... that house also had exterior sheathing
put up in little chunks under the masonite shingles. NO insulation.
