We are renovating our kitchen and installing a new dishwasher. We
have been researching the Stainless Steel Fisher & Paykel Double
Dishdrawer. I'd love to hear from anyone who has one of these - I've
heard mixed messages - those who love the convenience of doing half
washes and those who've had problems with high maintenance costs. The
alternative is a standard dishwasher by Blanco. Thanks !

We have one in white. Over a year old. Kitchenaid also carries it with
their label so you can bet that the bugs are out of it. Problem is that
most are not installed correctly. The double hose must be installed per
instructions otherwise eventually you will get an flood error from
siphoning. I would bet that all of the complaints are from incorrect
installation. I had to have the idiot from Lowes pull it out 3 times before
I got the him to follow the instructions. Ever since it has been fine and I
would buy it again in a minute. Bottom drawer is noiser than the top due to
less insulation (nothing to insulate it from the floor). If you buy one
turn down the rinse aid unless you have very hard water.... it is
electronically adjustable. Overall we are very happy with it. If we had a
large family we might stick with the old type but for empty nesters or 1 kid
the 2 drawer is the way to go.

Another good reason not to buy from the big box stores.

I installed two single drawers on either side of my kitchen sink about
7 years ago. So far I have had to replace one door seal and one drain
hose. The cost of parts were on par with other appliance parts I
purchased, I can't comment on labor because replaced them myself. The
units are VERY quiet and I like the convenience of being able to run
half loads. One word of warning, don't attempt to open the drawer
without pausing it, makes a mess. I would definately buy these
dishwashers again if I had to do it again.

Your version may have the old air bladder seal. That was supposed to be a
big problem. Current versions have a lid that just comes down and seals the
unit. Works well.

You are correct. It does have the bladder seal. Even then I've only
had to replace one in seven years. Not bad.

I keep on thinking about the comment that if Kitchenaid puts their
name on something, then it is all checked out and worthy of the name.
Well, this is just plain silly. Companies manufactur products and
rebrand other products all the time that they know are worthless.
Whirlpool, which owns the Kitchenaid brand, often puts out products
that fail in normal operation. Can anybody say "Calypso Washer?" And
don't get me started on Consumer Reports, which rated the Calypso
highly until the bitter end.

After reading the on-line stories about the Calypso, you might have a point.
I can say though that we really enjoy our Fisher & Paykel dishdrawers. It
does need to be installed correctly though. The duel drain tubes must be
routed per instructions.

Hi,
We got our about two years ago! Absolutely love them. Why have a
dishwasher that does't clean the dishes? Fisher Paykel always does
the job. It uses less water, and detergent, and is quiet.
