Craftsman remote garage door opener issue

I replaced the batteries to the garage door opener remote and it still
won't work. I opened the craftsman unit and found the dip switches.
They are numbered 1-9.
On my remote they are numbered 2-9.
How does this work? Was I given a faulty remote? Please advice - &
thanks for your help in advance.

There are thousands of models. If you do not have the instructions, write
down the model number and check Sear's site for the instructions and follow
them. Many are programmable and you have to follow instructions to get them
to work together.

The dip switch difference is fine. What you need to do is find the button on
the door opener that syncs with the remote. Find that button and then press
it let it go and then press the remote button that should get the two to see
each other and work.

If you cannot find the manual online, call them up. I had the same
problem and could not find the online manual. I called their customer
service and they were able to send me a copy.

Your transmitter is a multi-button remote & the #1 switch on the
receiver determines which button on the transmitter operates the door.
So switches 2-9 should be set the same on both. One button would be
"+" on #1 on the receiver, the 2nd button would be "0" and the 3rd
button would be "-".
