Our main water line from pump/well to house broke just shy of a T
junction (under an oak tree under main driveway!). What is the best way
to fix this? We have thought of 1) internal insert, 2) cut out T and
replace with larger T if such thing exists, 3) hire plumber. Any
suggestions appreciated. katcan333

What kind of pipe is it? Is the tee fitting still good?

You can probably use repair couplings, or a coupling and a union, to splice
in a new section of pipe.

That is a problem that is usually solved with a 'Dressler coupling'.
It is a short tube with screw on caps containing gaskets on both ends.
Cut out the broken portion, slide the Dressler on one of the pipes, fit
the other in place, slide Dressler back in postion and tighten both
caps.
