Default deep shag carpet needs cleaning

We've moved into a house with tongue-in-groove oak flooring throughout.
Some rooms have wall-to-wall carpet. Others have area rugs.

Whoever lived here had pets that urinated on the rugs and carpets in many
spots throughout the house.

There's a rug in the big family room I'd like to salvage. It's a 4" thick
chic shag. The thing is tremendously heavy, and extremely thick.

Is this a "send it to a specialist" job, or am I likely to find some carptet
cleaner who can satisfactorily do the job with the rug in place?

Is there any particular kind of carpet cleaner or specialist I'm to look for
(obviously I don't know beans about these kinds of things).
