60/40 double sink choice---RIGHT OR LEFT?

My question is should the LARGER sink be on the right or the left?

Conditions:

Right-handed users
Disposal in smaller sink
Dishwasher to right side of sink
Food prep probably to right side of sink
Dirty dishes probably to left side of sink

We have one and I'm not sure I like it at all. Probably would be best if
both sides were the same size.

Where do you feel most comfortable placing the most and
the largest items?

You might also want to think about where this will position
the garbage disposal unit and what that means when using the
under-sink storage cupboard.

Most people are right-handed. Consider where the faucet will be. With
the water streaming down, you want to be able to hold something large
like a casserole dish with your left hand, and a brush in your right
hand. Also, do you have a garbage disposal unit? Under which sink do you
want it? The plumbing layout may help decide this for you.

If none of this matters, put the large sink on the right. If you have to
move heavy items from the large sink to the small sink, and you're
holding a brush/ cloth in your right hand, this setup gives you the
shortest distance.

Just to point out:)

I think ONE LARGE BOWL is better, since nearly everyone uses a
dishwasher these days.

I know our sink would be mnuch more convenient with just one large
bowl.........

I have a 60/40 with the dishwasher on the right side. I have the
disposal in the left/larger basin, do food prep on the left, dirty
dishes on the right side. Why would you want to put the dirty dishes
on the side farthest from the dishwasher? I just scrape off plates
into the trash can, then either put them in the DW or on the counter
above.

I really like the 60/40 sinks. It gives you one large main basin and
another that is still goo size and available as a backup. The one to
avoid, IMO, is the ones with two basins, where one is a disposal well.
As I said, I prefer the disposal on the main basin, so the little
disposal well is useless.

Take a look at the Kohler Marsala. That's what I have. It's 60/40,
with deep basins, single faucet in the center, so the basins can go
back farther, and it has the drains located near the rear corners.

The wife decides!

In general it depends on the work flow. One kitchen may have more
counter space on one side or the other, storage space on one side or the
other and the location of refrigerator and oven - stove also would come into
play.

Remember rule #1 "The wife decides!"

The big sink goes on whichever side puts the faucet at the back. (think
about it) ;-)

Hope this helps,
Bob

obviously you did not think about it
because if you had,
you would have realized that the dishwasher should be draining into the
garbage disposal regardless of the size of the bowl .

what the hell does the faucet have to do with the price of beans?

Those of us who have seen a kitchen sink at least once in our lives
know that the faucet goes in back. If you do it the other way around, it'll
be constantly getting in the way.

*IFF* the sink is one that's pre-punched with holes for the
faucet, then that will determine the orientation of the sink.
If the sink doesn't have holes for a faucet, then it won't.

If the faucet isn't high enough so you can easily
get a large pot under it in the small sink, then
the large bowl should go nearest the stove.

Was it me, I'd put the larger bowl as far from the
dirty-dish pile as I could manage, in order to
keep people from piling crap into it. Because
then you'll have to dig everything OUT of the damn
thing in order to use it to clean big pots.
