What type of AC refrigerant might be used in a 30yr old (GE brand)
residential system? R22..R12? Do newer systems use R134?

Thanks,

Bob

Almost certainly R-22.

Do newer systems use R134?

No, not your typical split system. Still R-22 or (ugh) Puron.

Thirty years ago, essentially all AC systems (residential or
commercial) used R-22. Please let us know what you're trying to do.
Are you a service tech?

R-134A was not used in any signifigant ammounts till 1993 or 1994.
