Beeping from attic
Beeping from attic
We recently moved into a used house and a few months ago noticed a high pitched beeping sound which seemed to originate from a particular location of the ceiling in the hallway. This beeping sound continued for several hours, until finally it started to gradually become quieter and quieter, until after an additional hour or two the sound faded away... as if a battery had been depleted. We haven't yet entered the attic, as the barely human-sized access hole in our closet isn't very inviting. Can anyone offer any theories as to what the source of sound could have been? ...how about advice on climbing into the attic? Please copy your response to if possible. Thank you! Chris |

Either a smoke detector batty that needs replacing. or a Roadrunner (beep beep) dying a slow death. Access is often through a trap door in the top of a closet. Careful where you stand if the floor is not finished so you don't go through. |

Chris Yep, I had a beep that drove me nuts trying to find it in the basement. Wife finally found it buried in a trash can. A smoke alarm I had replaced and thrown away a year before without puilling the battery. Harry K |

Most likely it is Jimmy Hoffa's wrist watch finally running down.

Chris Seriously, I think you will get more enjoyment out of the wild speculation of what produced the beeping noise, than you would from actually knowing. I think you should leave it alone and hope it happens again. Neil |

Only thing that can get up into my attic is a small child maybe. No way an adult would be able to get up there. If I ever sell my house, they get whatever's up there sight unseen. -T- Chuckle. When I sold my grandparent's house, which we had been using as a rental after my grandmother passed away, I told the people I was showing it to that the stacks of Life magazines in ass end of shallow attic, and the chest freezer in basement (that I had damn near killed myself putting down there when my mother moved in to take care of grandmother in her final years) went with the place. As far as I know, both are still right where I left them. aem sends... |
