What's the most common failure in a Whirlpool gas dryer that would
cause the drum to rotate but "no heat"?

- failed igniter

- failed gas valve

- thermostats

- thermal fuse

- something else ?

Hi,

Model#?

Coils on the gas valve, bad ignitor, thermal fuse ( if used on your
model ) would be most common.

The ignitor is the easiest culprit to check. Just put the dryer into a
heating cycle and check for 120 at the quick-disconnect. If you have
120 drop, but the ignitor isn't glowing, replace it.

All the fuses and stats can be checked as well. Here's the cheater
way: pull the wires off and connect them to eachother, bypassing each
part. You can only do this temporarily though. Don't operate a dryer
with a bypassed star or fuse.

Thanks much to all who responded.

I was able to walk a friend through it, and in this case it turned out
to be the thermal fuse.

He's going to do a thorough check of his vent to make sure it's clear
of kinks and lint build-up.
