Bathroom remodel
I am removing a tile floor and want to replace it with linoleum. The small
mosaic type tiles came up very easy as the concrete type leveling substrate had deteriorated into a powder. However, now I'm left with an inch or so difference in floor heighth between the adjacent room and a very uneven plywood subfloor. Thanks for any suggestions. Lee |
Cap the floor with subfloor material. Hardie backer, plywood, wafer board, particle board. The last 2 are not great choices for potential water in a bathroom. Your 1" difference will require 2 layers, or 1 layer on strips, or 1 and 1/8 material unless that gets you too high. You can remove it with soem effort. Then install lino underlayment. |
Are you really sure you want to do this? For a room as small as an average
bathroom, put in some new tile and it won't be that much more expensive. And a tile floor is SO much nicer than that vinyl junk. You won't have to worry about your height difference and you'll have a MUCH nicer finished room (assuming you do good work) than if you put down vinyl, which just screams 'cheap' to me. -Tim |
Thanks to all,
Looks like I'm going to have to replace the plywood flooring as well. Apparently moisture has caused it to swell and buckle. I'll be doing that today. Just hope the damp hasn't damaged the joists. As far as reinstalling tile, it's my mother-in-law's bathroom and she is done with tile. I think the larger tile would be easier to keep up than the small mosaic, but it's her house and she wants a vinyl floor and a fiberglass shower. Lee "Wingman" wrote in message ...
