We have a single handle Moen kitchen faucet with a sprayer hose on the
side of the faucet. Since we bought the house used, I have no
paperwork about the faucet giving model etc.

The diverter valve inside the faucet seems to be sticky and does not
work properly when the sprayer hose is turned on unless we turn the
sprayer on and off several times quickly.

Are there any servicable parts inside the faucet or would just taking
it apart and cleaning help?

I am a novice at such things and don't want to take it apart if it
won't solve the problem.

You'll probably have to replace the diverter valve.
Moen used a couple of different valves, so you could wind up
taking the thing apart and then have to take the old one
to parts house.

LOL, wish my faucet had been Moen! In trying to get
the cover off to get at the ball valve, I broke the
foolish thing loose from its base! And the Li'l Lady
of course, picked out a much more expensive
replacement - one of those where you can grab the spout
and pull it out and use it as a sprayer! Nice, but
expensive!

I don't know if the cartridges are under warranty that way, so I can't speak
to that issue. First time I called them, the cartridge was ruined due to
factors related to a crumbling dip tube in my water heater. No fault of
Moen's, in other words. I called to double check the part number before I
went shopping. They insisted on replacing it for free. I told the woman 3
times that this was not their fault, and she kept saying "We just want
customers to be happy".

I had a faucet with the filter built into it. Piece of crap. The design of
how the hose attaches to the handle isn't very good. It's prone to failure
such that the two times it broke they didn't even hesitate to immediately
send out another. This seems like a nice thing until you have to replace it
several times. I'd rather have something that just didn't fail instead of
getting free parts. That and those filters are tremendously overpriced
compared to using an under-counter filter.

Moen's policy of free parts is nice, until you realize it's there to make up
for shoddy design.

As you suggested Moen would seem not to have been liable in your case,
but other folks have reported the same experience with Moen and other
faucet manufacturers, so your experience was neither strange nor
unusual.

Kohler and American Standard's warranties are basically identical to

I'm pretty sure Moen stamps the model number on the back of the faucet,
but unless you're really agile, you may need a mirror to see it. On
each of mine, it is on the back of the upright, facing the wall. Once
you have the model number, give them a call.

I agree, Doug. Dirty buggers!! Of course they did need the model number
but then they insisted that they send additional parts on the second call to
them. See if I purchase another product from them, like next week, for the
bathroom I'm remodeling.... ahhh, I think I just blew my dredibility,
didn't I!?

I identified the model number, called Moen, they sent the repair parts
for "no charge". All are now installed and work well.
