Smile dimming circuit components & circuitry

I want to be able to dim the lights on my ceiling fan that doesn't have any wall switch, only a pull chain for the lights. I think a simpler and cheaper way than putting in house wiring to a wall switch is to put dimming circuitry in the fan housing operated by a multiple selection pull chain switch. I would like to have a off/full/dim/moredim selection or at least off/full/dim. Can someone advise the electronic dimming components and circuitry necessary; remembering it has to be small as the space within the fan housing is limited? (The multiple selection pull chain switch I have found) But I still need the electronic components and how to put them together.
