attic fan making noise
 

Just got a new attic fan from a guy who replaced my duct work, the old fan
was burned out and
he replaced it. Anyway 1 month later its making noises like the bearings are
going. He came over and sprayed WD40 on it and quieted down for acouple of
hours and now its make to making noise.

Is there something else I can use to quiet it down or should I put some
pressure on this guy to replace it. He's just saying "I'm just the
installer, I'm not paying for the fan" then he says who's going to pay me
for the labor?

If it is new, it should be covered by some sort of warranty. Labor may not
be though. WD-40 is a rather poor lubricant and is temporary. You need a
real oil, something like 3 in 1 that will last in a motor. Sounds like a
defective bearing.

Take your loss. He is responsible but getting him
to replace is likely to be a hassel. This guy
doesn't know what he is doing as evidenced by
spraying WD40 on it. He probably suckered you
with a used fan that he got for nothing. It is
likely repairable by taking the the motor out,
cleaning the gunk out of the bearings (you can do
that with WD40), and replacing any fiber washers
with nylon or stainless steel washers, and using a
good oil (turbine oil). If you don't want to do
that, get another person to install a new fan, or
buy a fan and install it yourself.
