expansion tank

My water heater requires an expansion tank.I just installed it.It was
supposed to pre set at 40 psi but when I checked it it was 50 psi. What
should it be set at.? We have a community well that has a pressure of 95/100
psi I have installed a pressure valve and have it set at 45psi The heater is
a 50 gallon propane power vented.

The expansion tank is to absorb the extra volume the water occupies
when it is heated. This keeps the relief valve on the water heater
from popping. You should be fine without further ado.

Your expansion tank is going to read whatever the system pressure is at
the time. If you don't use any water for a period, the pressure will
slowly climb as the water heats and expands. The chamber does just
what it says, alows the water to expand without forcing the TPR valve
open.

You set the pressure of the expansion tank to the incoming water pressure.
You do this with no pressure on the tank at all.
