squirrel repellant

I keep getting squirrels building a nest under a roof. Its an overhang next
to third floor roof. I do not want to look at chicken . And no I cannot trap
or transport or harm them as they are protected in this state. Does anyone
know of a repellent that I could spray there to keep them away from that
portion of the house? Or are they afraid of any rubber animals?

TIA.

Squirrels are protected? What state is that?

I'd spray some #6 birdshot from a 12-gauge to repel them.

1. Why don't you want to look at chickens?

2. I think a life size rubber Ann Coulter animal would scare most
anything away. If not that, a life size rubber Hillary Clinton would
make them drop dead of fright, right on the spot.

3. Google for squirrell in this newsgroup. Most of the posts that come
up will be authored by or be about 'Doug', 'Chris' or 'Stretch', but
I'd bet you'll find other threads that discuss your question to
ridiculous lengths.

(And don't be afraid of the chickens. At least they don't build nests
under your roof. Also, it makes you seem.... well... like ... well,
sort of like a chicken, I suppose.)

In most states squirrels are game animals. You may hunt them, generally
between September and January, if you have a license. Be sure to tag the
antlers. The good news is that in these states, squirrels gnawing on wiring
is not considered "miscellaneous rodent damage" by your insurance company.

Only during September through January.

A friend of mine has a nice sight with lots of info and a message board
dedicated just to squirrels.
www.unexco.com They aren't really
protected, just considered a game animal, and there are certain
consideration in order to deal with them, though I doubt you will have a
problem with any agency at all if you can show they are a nuisance to
the structure.

Fire, and lots of it..

I've never heard of a squirrel returning after being set on fire, so
it must work as a great repelleant. Anyone have experiences to share?

Oh man, like most of us, we can't look at chickens too. They are so
sexy.

Ow la La.....

Life size, what is that a string? A twig, a wire? The woman is
invisible most of the time, she needs to eat more food.

Lots of *really* helpful people here, no?

Homemade pepper spray; dump a bottle of Tabasco into an empty spray
bottle. Fill with water and spray liberally. WEAR EYE PROTECTION AND
WASH YOUR HANDS WHEN FINISHED!!!!

I grew up in the south Missouri Ozark mountains. We never had trouble
with squirrels in the house, our squirrels understood that if they
showed up near a house, they'd wind up in the kitchen. Braize in a
little water till near tender, roll in seasoned flour and fry like
chicken! Good stuff! Get a .22 and some shorts and hit them right
near the eye! Use a sharp knife to clean them, they have a really
tough skin for a small animal.

its comforting to see that for a change someone gave the RIGHT answer
instead of simply suggesting you blow whatever animal is offending you away.

well done.

At least one person suggested burning them, which is similar to "blowing
them away", but slightly different. Personally I think either method is
great, although burning napalm can be somewhat hazardous to the structure.

There's nothing simple about controlling squirrels. Don't underestimate
the little varmints.

I use these little lead pellets moving at high velocity, followed by a few
shovels of earth.

What state is it that protects these vermin?

And how is he supposed to get close enough to the squirrel to spray it?

Well, I enjoyed all the funny answers here and I would also shot them if at
all possible.
However, it got me to thinking like a squirrell (where to hide my nuts,
etc.). If hanging a silhouette of an owl or raptor helps keep birds away
from glass windows, why not squirrells? Maybe go to your local hardware
store and find one of those plastic owls for gardens or draw a silhoutte on
a piece of plywood, paint it dark and hang it from the roof to move with the
breeze.
