Electric Range Element

It's a standard range with two small and two large stove top elements.
The outer ring on one of the larger elements no longer glows orange
and it takes much longer to cook.

Are these elements universal size? If so, where do I buy? Or is it
necessary to write to GE, furnish model number, etc. and order it
special? Thank You.

go to www.repairclinic.com and you will find what you need. Your local
store will also have them.

Maureen,

Look in your phone book under appliance repair parts. There will be store
that stock these elements. Give them a call. Before you call write down the
Brand and model Number so you can tell them. The people in these store are
usually very helpful. There are lot's of internet stores too.
Are you sure that the problem is in the element? A cheap way to check is
to swap the two large elements and see if the "broken" element still fails
to work in it's new position.

Some model# helps.

It's a standard range with two small and two large stove top

elements

None are standard nor are the different manufactures the same.

Are these elements universal size?

Nope.

Or is it necessary to write to GE, furnish model
number, etc

Not necessarily GE, but yes the model# is best to use and/or bring in
the element to local appliance parts depot.
