Stump Removal
Several months ago I read that the best way to get rid of a stump is
to burn it out. Drill holes, fill with kerosene, etc. I've got a 4' - 5' diameter stump from a water oak that's about 6" above ground level. This morning I went to Home Depot to buy a bit and found that there were more choices than I was expecting. For this application what type of bit would be best? Are 1" holes appropriate? How many? How deep? In general, what applications do you use an auger for and when do you use a spade bit? -- Bob Simon remove both "x"s from domain for private replies |

The spade is cheap and works for thin boarda thast are dryid wood. 1" might work for kerosine, but you need at least 1.25" if you are using sticks (1 1/8 diA) to sped the job. -- Free men own guns, slaves don't www.geocities.com/CapitolHill/5357/ |

I've seen some coffee tables make out of large tree stumps or trunks going for over $5,000 a while ago. In any case, I use my auger for fence post holes and a spade bit with my jackhammer for breaking out concrete or digging around tree roots. If you were referring the wood boring spade bit then you need a drill to bore holes in you tree stump. |
