Surviving high heating oil prices

In the event that anyone out there actually wishes to discuss JonquilJans
original subject, or anything having to with making it through winter,
insulating, or weatherizing a house, start a new subject. This R-value
routine has degenerated into a farce.

Why is it that these days, the words "What idiot" are so frequently
followed by the words "at Microsoft"?

Yeah. Those of us with solid walls (studs with masonry under shiplap) would
like a "useful" insulation solution other than "buy a new house" which
we're not going to do, since we have/want something with a stable subfloor
lasting 100 years with no bouncing (you know, like what we already have).
That "bouncing/vibrating" crap happens in every "new" house I've ever been
in and I would never tolerate it.

Most I've been in recently aren't objectionable. If you really want
stiff floors, build on a slab. ;-) I'll take the insulation,
thanks.
