led light bulb replacements
 

how well do this led light bulb replacements really work? i was
thinking about replacing three par20 50-watt small halogen flood
lights (550 lumens each) that are in smallish recessed lighting
fixtures above my kitchen island. the lumens rating for the led
replacements is much lower than the current halogen flood bulbs that i
have, which i don't think the are bright enough. halogen bulbs already
get too hot and cause the fixure to switch off for a little while
every 20 minutes. the fixture is rated for par16 to par20 medium
edison base bulbs and no more than 60 watts. any other suggestions for
a replacement bulb?

First thing I would do is make sure you have adequate ventilation
around the recessed fixture. If you have insulation close to or
touching the fixture, or if there is no room for air to circulate,
this could be causing your heat issue. If you can address this, you
might not have to change bulbs.

Personally, I like the light you get from a halogen bulb more than
compact flourescents or an led.

Besides, led bulbs for household use are still very new. They haven't
figured out how to make them with a natural enough light rendering to
satisfy most consumers, or the price is so high, no one will buy them.

i'm in a 2 story house and the fixtures are in the space between the
first and second floor with lots of room...maybe halogen bulbs just
run too hot for them or the fixture sensor is not set correctly or not
working right...are they adjustable?
