Home Depot hard wood floors

We plan on replacing our carpet in our living room and hallways with
hard wood flooring. We have found a 3/4" solid Manchurian Walnut which
is hand scraped and distressed at HomeDepot for $4.99sqft. My wife and
I really like this specific flooring. We looked at Bruce, Anderson
Virginia Vintage, et al but like the HomeDepotDirect floor by looks
better.

I have read all the horror stories about installs with Home Depot. We
plan on having someone we know that has been doing hard wood floors for
10 years install the flooring.

If we don't do the install through Home Depot, what do we need to be
aware of? So far all I've read have been install issues, not issues
with the actual product.

Thank you.

Cool. You might also want to pay a visit to your local flooring
warehouser as well. They might have similar product for far less $.

By not using Home Depot, you need to be aware that you'll be saving a
lot of money. :-)

If you can, get the wood well ahead of time and have it hang out in
your home and acclimate for several days.

Think/ask about finishing options. You could be deaing with a lot of
smell and repeat visits for finishing if you don't choose a
prefinished product.

Other than the usual, check bbb.org for the business you're
considering, ask for references, get a contract, find a company you
feel comfortable with, etc.

You might consider waiting to do this until the higher humidity time
of the year to avoid buckling issues.
