Hot water heater pilot light/epoxy sealent...
Hello... I am wanting to seal my basement floor with epoxy sealent. My
concern is fumes and the pilot light from the heater. Should this be an issue? I'm not sure how to turn the pilot light off if need be. Any help would be much thanked..... |

If the warning label talks about explosive or flamable fumes, I'd err on the side of caution. -- -- Todd H. http://www.toddh.net/ Thanks to both...It's Rust-oleum Epoxy-Shield...Water based and no mention of flamables so I guess it should be ok..Thanks for your responces. |

I'm not sure how to turn the pilot light off if need be. Any help would be much thanked..... I have done several garages with epoxy based floor coatings and the fumes will get quite intense. Since the garages had gas water heaters, I made sure there was enough positive ventalation to keep the fumes from building up to a dangerous level. Easy to do in a garage, much harder in a basement. Yes, you need to be concerned. If I had gas water heaters in a garage and was using a flammable floor coating product, I would not just rely on ventilation, I would make sure the pilot lights were out, which is very easy to do. Ventilation is good, but it's not perfect and not uniform. It's still possible for the concentration to be a lot higher in one spot than another. |

figure it out..How about relighting it? Do you do this like a pilot light on a stove? wrote: Clark W. Griswold, Jr. wrote: wrote: Hello... I am wanting to seal my basement floor with epoxy sealent. You depress and turn the valve to pilot. Then while holding it down, light the pilot. Hold it for about a minute, till the thermocouple gets hot, then release. It should stay lit. Then move the valve to on. |
