Portable A/C?

Anyone have one of those portable A/Cs that uses two hoses in the
window? Consumer Reports checked the one-hose kind and didn't care
much for them, but suggested two-hose would be better.

Lowe's has a DeLonghi Pinguino that I can't find on the DeLonghi
website--costs about $500. Ouch. The advantage (besides being able to
roll it around) is that I don't have to wait for my husband to
reinstall it every spring.

Anyway, I'm wondering if they work, mainly, and if there are
inconveniences I know not of.

Don't waste your money.

I tried these last year and ended up returning the unit.
The units are useless because so much hear radiates from the tubing. After
being on all day, it didn't even cool the apt. Then at night time, when it
got a little cooler out, it ended up being hotter in the apt with this
running, then if I had just kept the windows and doors open.

Additionally, the model I had, there was a condensation tray that I had to
empty almost daily. No matter how careful I was, walking to the sink, some
always ended up on the floor. This was especially annoying, when I would get
home after being at work all day, expecting the apt to be cool, but the unit
shut itself off because the condensation tray was full.

True, they are cheaper then a window a/c, but I'd suggest investing a little
more and getting a window (or casement) a/c.

You have to ask yourself "do I really need an AC?". AC's use up way too
much power so I recommend learning to live without one. 100 years ago
people survived fine without AC, you are no different. Remember, by not
buying, your saving, and saving is the goal, not buying.

In this day and age, A/C is a standard feature of modern life.
There are always going to be the 1% of the population with
crazy ideas like self-mutilation and other needless kinds of
suffering. Living without A/C is one of those things. Only
a semi-crazy person would give up a good nights sleep or
comfortable work environment just to be able to brag about
their deviant behavior.

Wellllll....... I'm not sure either saving or buying is my goal.

My dad tells me that in the days before offices were air conditioned,
productivity went way down in the summertime.

Personally, I can wear long johns all day in the winter, and snuggle
under down at night, but in the summertime, I just want to estivate. I
wish I could go to sleep in June and wake up in October.
