I wrapped the encapsulated R13 around a duct that connects through an
un-insulated garage. Then I wrapped duct tape around it. The duct is round, about 3 inches circumference. I'm concerned that when the heating season begins that this will be a fire hazard. Is this a danger? |

I'm assuming the 3 inch duct (4" duct is standard) is metal. Just make sure your duct tape didn't compress the insulation or it'll reduce the R value. They do make an insulating product which you simply slide over the pipe. R-13 is a bit overkill for duct insulation depending upon where you are. -al sung Rapid Realm Technology, Inc. Hopkinton, MA |
