how to install last cap shingle

I am a do-it-yourselfer and I've roofed my shed with 3-tab shingles.
(First roofing job) I plan to cut my leftover 3-tabs to make the cap
shingles.

It sounds like I install these in a similar manner as the rest of the
roof... overlapping.. leaving 5-inches exposed.

But how do I install the very last cap shingle? Am I supposed to use
adhesive or something? Or lift the last shingle and do the best I can?

Thanks for any help.

Continue your ridge cap shingles out to the end, you may have to trim
the end off the last ridge cap, as it will not usually work out to be
full length.

Trim the tab from one of the ridge caps so you're left with the tab
only. Place a glob of roof adhesive on each corner of the tab, and
nail to the last ridge cap. Nail once through each side of the tab and
cover the nails with the same adhesive. There will a black spot on
each side but hardly noticable from the ground.

Make sure you use long nails when layering to get adequate hold on the
sheeting.

Good luck,

Darwin
