Patching / repairing ding in faux wood closet door

Anyone have any good tips on patching a hollow closet door - the dent
is maybe 1" x 3". I know I could put down some wood putty and re-paint
the door, but it will still be obviously patched since there are faux
wood grains. Any suggestions are appreciated.

A full length mirror to go over it.
