Replacing motor oil in your lawnmower?
 

Can anybody advise me on the easiest method of pumping the oil out of
a lawnmower in order to change the oil?

I just put the mower up on blocks (I'm assuming a push-mower) and
remove the bottom drain plug. The plug may be buried under
grass-residue. Would that work for you?

It depends on the engine and lawnmower. In the case of my Honda
Harmony 215, you simply take out the dip stick, place a small flat
container on the ground, and turn the mower on it' side, allowing it to
run out the fill tube.

You could suck it out with a syringe as many people do when they are
afraid to open a drain plug or don't want the mess. This is not as
complete, but you can do it more often if concerned.

Assuming you are referring to a smaller Briggs or Tecumsah engine built in the
past 10 years or so, just turn the mower on its side and let the oil drain out
of the fill tube. You don't need to get every last drop out and you don't need
to use the drain port on the bottom of the engine.

Warm up the engine, open the oil fill port, turn over the mower, and pour it
out into a drain bucket.

I just got a gadget at Sears the other day. A small plastic tank with
a plug, some plastic tubing and a hand pump. The hand pump pulls a vacuum
in the tank and when you put the tubing down the dipstick/fill hole it will
suck out the oil. Does a nice job, a lot easier than lifting the mower
to drain it out the filler and lot less messy as well.

Just run the engine for a bit - it won't pull really cold oil very
quickly.

I also used in on my pressure washer which has an oddball filler and
drain combo that usually has me with oil all over....
