Remote control problem
 

My Sony RM-870 remote control has been working fine for a few years and now
all of a sudden, it will only work if the distance is no more than 30 cm in
front of the tv. The batteries have been replaced but same result. Any help
appreciated.

Try replacing the IR LED.

Resolder the battery holder terminals to the PCB.
