I would like to have a diode light in my guitar whenever the mic is on. Now,
I understand there has to be a resistor somewhere there in between.
I'm trying to make a Brian May kind of a copy of his guitar - however, the
looks will be something like Stratocaster, though differing totally as to
electronics. Is there anybody who has tried this before?
I do not know how much the consumption of the diode/resistor combination
will be, so help me, if you only can!

in your guitar or in the mic?

As I understand it guitar amps don't put phantom power up the signal cable
so there's nothing in the guitar that can tell if it's hooked up or not.

it may be possilble to arrange something so that an LED lights up when the
cable is plugged into the guitar, you'd need batteries in (or attached to)
the guitar to power the led and modifications to the socket, it'd be much
easier to fit a batteries and a switch

I don't recall Brian May's guitar, but basically if you're wanting to attach
lights to your guitar you'll need to attach a power source to it somehow,

It may be possible to use a special signal cable that can feed power into a
customised guitar, but starting off I'd reccomend battery power...
a pair of rechargable AA cells can run 20 average LEDs about three hours and
longer, or more LEDs, if they flash,
