RCA chippercheck question

I got mine a while back and have had good luck with it except on a CTC187 a
couple days ago. It had a corrupted eprom, (set had HV, no raster or sound,
could not be turned off). Reinitializing eprom resulted in a dead set, (no HV).
Eprom check said no errors eprom good. Uploading a file from another 187 made
set work, downloading this problem 187 eprom and uploading to a new eprom
resulted in a dead set. Eprom data is still corrupted, and reinitialize does
not correct it. Is this a common thing or just an isolated case? Set works good
after uploading the other 187 file and alignment, but I was hoping to avoid
doing the TAG alignment if at all possible by using the chippercheck. Didn't
work on this one.

Easy. Upload the file you did that made it work, but first edit it
using notepad. Take your first file that is corrupt and basically
clip out all the values except for the tuner values, then use those
values in a new third file which will use all the values except for
the tuner values. So you're going to create a third file using the
good values from the first one substituting the tuner values from the
set you're working on. It's just a text file so this is easily done.

Now you have the original tuner values along with the good values
below that from your other set.

When you reinitialize the EEPROM it can not fix all the problems
because it only inits the start and not some things that would cause a
dead set. It's not a cure all for everything, but most dead sets can
be revived by using it IME.
