Samsung DVD-511 burned resistors
Hi PRR15 and PRR17 1/8 watt resistors in power supply primary burned
beyond recognition. Anyone with a similar model can tell me their values? Exact model no. is DVD-511/XAA though I presume any DVD-511 or DVD-711 or maybe other models may have the same power supply components. Thanks in advance. |
Hi PRR15 and PRR17 1/8 watt resistors in power supply primary burned
beyond recognition. Anyone with a similar model can tell me their values? Ouch! Checked out the secondary to make sure it's okay? Also, you may want to consider the player as a lost cause. The DVD-511, as well as many other Samsung players, were horrible when it came to the quality of their optical pickups. This player may have a worn pickup on top of the power supply problem. - Reinhart |

The resistors are in the primary. Sorry, probably the switcher is fried. mz |

Sorry, probably the switcher is fried. mz sorry, I failed to mention the cause of the frying. the unit is a brand-new US-made 120V model accidentally plugged in to a 220V outlet standard in our country. The owner forgot to use the stepdown transformer. You're right switcher is fried but I've got a replacement; just need what those resistor's values are. |
Not to mention the shorted spindle motor, the likely cause of the burned
resistors. Oh, wow! So I'm not the only one who saw this problem up close and personal. There was another DVD player that came in for a problem and it was a DVD-511 with a shorted spindle motor. - Reinhart |
You're right switcher is fried but I've got a
replacement; just need what those resistor's values are. Well, I used to have a busted DVD-511 which had a functioning power supply. I can try to locate it and give the values of the resistors themselves. In the case of an overvoltage condition, you may also want to check the condition of other power supply parts, especially any electrolytics and varistors in the primary. - Reinhart |

Thanks, I'd extremely appreciate it. That would save me a lot of time
as against trying out different values - Greg PRR15 is a 1/8 watt 330 ohm resistor PRR17 is a 1/8 watt 4.7 kilo-ohm resistor - Reinhart |
