To those that responded, thank you VERY much!!

desoldering the jumper (blob of solder) on the back of the optical
pickup for my Jeep's CD changer worked perfectly.

So the next logical question is (purely out of curiosity), why is there
a soldered jumper on the back of this pickup? Is it for different uses
of the same device, or is it to keep "unauthorized" do-it-yourselfers
from being able to fix it?
