Sony Camcorder Help !!!!!

Hi all
I have got a Sony video camera about 4 years old, it is analogue and
has had very little use "i.e. holidays" I just got it out again ready for
my holiday and it seems to be faulty. It seems to record ok, timer counts
up, tape is going round but when I go to playback there is nothing there and
the odd thing in when you rewind the tape the counter seems to stay on the
value you recorded up to, and not go back down, and also in playback the
counter wont move. It is as though the thing is recording but not playing
back.
Everything else is fine on the camera. I have tried repair shops and
no one seems keen to look at camcorders. If I could pinpoint the faulty part
I could replace myself any ideas please.

I would have thought it was the main head at fault but I am no expert.

Cheers Noel

PS I have tried all the simple things "i.e. new tapes head cleaner"

A 'do-it-yourself' approach to repairing camcorders is virtually impossible
- you need to have specialist equipment and knowledge.

Go to http://dealerlocator.sony.co.uk/repairs.asp to find the nearest
authorised Sony repair centre.
