RCA D52W20 Always asks ENGLISH? When Turned on

My son has an RCA D52W20 (ATC221 chassis) HDTV receiver. Every time it's
turned on, it asks which language ("English?"). When you select English, it
then tells you to select Channel Search to search for active channels as if
doing the initial setup.

It does this EVERY time set is turned on.

He's just accepted it after all these months, and hits the "CLEAR" button
each time he turns the set on to bypass the annoying prompts.

His cable is connected to CMP1 input.

I don't know how he can live with it - it drives me nuts.

BTW, when channel search is done, it never finds anything, but TV works
fine. Is it normal to come up empty doing the search?

Anyone have any ideas (other than not buying RCA anymore) ?

Connect the cable lead to the RF input lead and let the set find the
channels, or loop it from the CATV box to the RF input so the tv finds at
least channel #3. Then select the component input to watch the thing. May
end the endless "English" and autp programme syndrome.

Thanks for the response Art. That makes a lot of sense. I just forwarded
that to my son and asked him to try it.

If I was there, I'd have tried it by now. Getting him to do something is
quite another story. Thanks again for the help........

Reset the Gemstar module. I will find the procedure for you tomorrow if you
don't find it on the net.

I found this:

go into guide + menu as if you were to setup
then using remote press "go back","input" and "clear"
you have to do this quickly
this will reset the gemstar module and delete any previous setup

But, it deals with a problem with an RCA CTC203 chassis on an RCA F25423.
Does that seem correct for me?

(I'm dealing with an RCA ATC221 chassis on an RCA D52W20)

Thanks
