Sony Amplifier Problem
 

Hi,

A friend of mine has a sony car amp that is acting strange. The right
channel will only work when the volume is turned up nearly all the way.
Does anyone know what could be causing this? I switched the left and
right inputs around to make sure it wasn't the head unit or cable, and
it didn't seem to make a difference.

Its hard to tell for sure , but I would suspect a leaky capacitor in the bad
channel . Also , check the power resistors in the emitter leggs of the
output transistors or IC . I had a burnout that I had forgotten to hook up
one legg of the emitter resistor , and the amp did the same thing as what
you describe .

If the sound cuts back on like this as volume is turned up, I would suspect
a bad solder connection, or other connection.

I have a 2 channel mixer and one of the channels is a bit like that,the
volume on it is really low and i only get sound from the left speaker,ive
figured out that its not the wiring or the connectors so im stuck now.
anyone any ideas?

Resolder any bad connections on the circuit board , after unpluging it of
course . Other than that , I dont know . Have never worked on a mixer .

There are no bad connections at all, i heard something about caps drying up
or something,would that have anything to do with the fact that thers only
sound coming from the left speaker on channel 1 and also on channel 2 im
getting a constant noise from channel 2, sounds like if you were to rub
your finger across the needle of a turntable.
