Thomson VPH 7090 VCR fault + cure

A Google search didn't turn up this fault, so I'm posting details now
for the benefit of future searchers!

Symptoms: Control panel and remote non-operational, display sometimes
blank, sometimes flashes 'dashed' clock, head assembly rotates
intermittently.

Cu Replace 4700 uF, 10V electrolytic in the power supply section to
the right of the main board when viewed from the front. This is, I
think, the largest electrolytic in that area, just in front of a couple
of large diodes. Luckily, you can just get a soldering iron to the back
of the board through holes in the plastic base plate, so there is no
need to dismantle the deck.

The electrolytic was obviously 'blown' and getting hot.

I had to reprogram channel 1, but all other settings were intact.

Roger.
