"pc" power supplies
Any of you guys had much luck working on these? Are they worth bothering
with, for the most part? Got two dead ATX supplies here, and a bunch of the earlier variety that I'm still using. g |

We found them not worth servicing, when evaluating the labour, and cost of
ordering and installing parts. If you have time to spend on them, they can be serviced, but are complex to work on. Sometimes the caps go defective, and cause other types of component failures. If any of the proprietary parts have to be replace, they will not be available from the electronics parts distributors. -- Greetings, Jerry Greenberg GLG Technologies GLG ========================================= WebPage http://www.zoom-one.com Electronics http://www.zoom-one.com/electron.htm ========================================= "Roy J. Lately I've seen a lot of capacitor failures, but lots of other stuff can go wrong. |

Yeah, that's the thing. I have and use a lot of older hardware here, mostly "AT" rather than "ATX" and this was my turn to try and bring up an ATX box. Only had floppy drive and MB connected and only ran it for a couple of hours at most of test time when the damn thing quit on me. I've got another one headed this way, but am gonna putz with this thing so I can have a spare, maybe. I sure don't intend to put much in the way of time into it. Lately I've seen a lot of capacitor failures, but lots of other stuff can go wrong. This doesn't strike me as caps, though -- seems too sudden, for one thing. We'll see if I get anywhere with it or not. |
