Sony KV-M2151D turns black & white only

hello,

my Sony KV-M2151D color television has the annoying problem at the moment
that it looses its colors after it has been turned on for some time. a while
the color starts flashing and its a half half situation but within some
minutes after that starts it turns totally black and white. it stays like
that until it gets turned of for some time, but then again it happens after
some time.

is there something i can do about this or is the tv at its end?

thanks,
bart

This set uses the Sony BE2A chassis, and this fault is usually caused by
trimmer CT332 going faulty. You can clean it or replace it with a 15pF
capacitor.

Failing that, check the IF section for dry joints.

is from trimmer CT332 the CT332 part the code on the board in the television
or is that a general type or such? as for the cleaning part, how can i clean
such a thing, is there more then i can do then blow a few times at it?

Failing that, check the IF section for dry joints.

i take it you mean if have to check something for components that might be
loose, but what is the IF section?

thanks,
bart

Given what you have now said about your electronics knowledge, I suggest
that you take the TV to a qualified technician from both a repair and safety
perspective.

Had a monitor with this problem just last week. Opened the case, saw
about half a pound of dust bunnies, blew the dust out with shop air, and
couldn't get the problem to repeat.

If you try this before going the 'qualified tech' route, be careful not
to touch any part of the board(s) or tube. Just remove the cover, spray
out the dust daemons, and replace the cover. Even after the power is
removed, several thousand volts lurk within.
