Is it easy to repair a digital camera? Mine seems to act weird after
I tried using Nimh 1800 types of batteries in it. Now it seems to
take picture just whenever it wants to, and won't obey commands
entered through the pressbuttons.

If you used batteries with the wrong voltage type, you damaged
components on one of the circuit boards. These cameras use very high
density surface mount technology. Many use flexi type circuit boards
with embedded component technology. The boards in these cameras are
considered non servable. The service people change the complete board
as a module, and then do the necessary adjustments for calibration if
necessary. You would have to send the camera out to the HP service rep
who is properly trained and equipped to service it.

Considering that this is an older model and is of only 1.2 mp, I would
strongly suggest you consider a newer camera. The 3 and 4 mp cameras
are much better, and far improved. The higher the mp of the camera, and
the better the lens, the sharper the pictures will be.

I've had 'some' luck in repairing the mechanicals...stuck gears, loose
ribbons, etc. Board level repairs are usually confined to replacing the
board itself....

Unless the manual tells you NOT to use rechargeable batteries, it may only be a
coincidence that the problem happened after trying the NiMH batteries.

As far as repairing it, can you figure out how to get into it without messing
it up? If you can, you might find loose connections or notice burned
components. Beyond that, you may need a service manual and/or a custom test
set for troubleshooting.

One thing to try is to remove the batteries and let it set a while. This might
reset the CPU and return everything to normal operation.

If you don't find something simple like this, it may be time to upgrade.
