Help with Warranty Clock Warning on RCA TV

Hello Everyone;

I have a RCA Entertainment Series TV. Recently I have started getting
this Message on the TV screen saying

Warranty Clock
some date and hours

It asks to press the MENU button to remove this message. when this
happens the sound turns off and it does not matter how much I press
the volume(up) the volume would not increase. the picture also gets
faded.

I will appriciate if someone can tell me why the TV is doing this and
how to resolve it.

One more thing there is only one external device attached to the TV
and its the antenna.

Help is appriciated.

That doesn't sound like a normal function, although without a model number I
couldn't tell you. Try unplugging the TV for an hour, and try again. It might
also need eeprom intervention with the Chipper Check interface and a PC.

Help with Warranty Clock Warning on RCA TV

John;

I downloaded the chipper check software. can you help me in resetting
the eprom?

I am confused on why would a company put such foolish thing inside
consumer goods like these tvs. will I have to take it to a service
center every couple of years??

thanks for your help John in this respect.

Your model number doesn't come up on my home computer, but I haven't updated it
in a couple of months.

Most Thomson TVs have a warranty clock, but it shouldn't pop up as you
described. If you've unplugged the TV to reset it and it hasn't, you will need
to take it to a Thomson service center. It might need it's eeprom
reinitialized through the proper interface and software, or it's eeprom and\or
uPc replaced. Again, try unplugging for a bit.

In addition to the software, you'll also need the interface box and adapters.
I believe they are now available from Sencore. You'll also see them on ebay
occasionally.

The warranty clock is not there to generate problems. It's there for
engineering and QC purposes, although I can see situations where a TV that is
supposed to be a month old, but shows 2500 hours might be denied warranty
service. I am a service center, but have never seen the warranty clock used to
deny a claim.

Good luck.
