Default AC to 9V DC adapter

I'm ahving problems installing an infra red TV relay. The
manufacturer thinks its the power supply. Does any one know how to
test a Class 2 transformer? It is the usual wall plug transformer
with a mini plug that plugs into the device.
I'd appreciate some advice.

The first thing is to look at the back of it and see it the output is AC or
DC. Then measure the output voltage with the appropriate scale. If the
desired output is DC, there is always the chance that you're not getting a
clean output - check it with a scope to see.

John Russ:
Use a simple and inexpensive test meter to test it .... or find another
device that takes the same plug and power voltage and polarity of the infra
red TV relay. ..... or since the manufacturer thinks the problem is the
power supply have them send you a replacement.
A local Television/VCR repair shop should be able to assist you quickly and
inexpensively regarding the testing of the power supply.

Certainly correct suggestions that you gave, but I would think that if the
OP had a scope and knew how to use it that he would not be asking how to
check the wall wart power supply to see if it works.
