I have a Pioneer DV-434 dvd player that plays most of the disc fine but once
it starts to get near the end of the disc starts to pixilate and distort. Very much like rain fade on a sat dish, where the whole picture doesn't mess up but certain parts start to pixilate. I tried adjusting the two vr on the side of the laser assembly but I don't know what test point I should be checking and what to be checking for, Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

It'll need a new pickup. Sorry. It's sold as a complete unit with the
spindle and sled motor. Mark Z. "Avrbuster" wrote in message ... Thanks for your help, Can you explain why a new pickup, how do you know it
the pickup? (not tring to be rude just curious, does this symtom occur on other dvd players as well or just limited to pioneer? And could you give me a rought cost estimate. Is it going to be easier and more cost effective to buy a new unit? Thanks very much for your time! Kevin "Mark D. Zacharias" wrote in message thlink.net... It'll need a new pickup. Sorry. It's THE classic symptom of a deteriorated laser pickup on a DVD player.
I'd have to look up the part price, and there's a difference between what a servicer would pay for the part, and the "retail" price a private individual would pay. Then there's labor to install and set up Could be more than the cost of a new one. Maybe 130.00 to 140.00. Mark Z. "Avrbuster" wrote in message ... Well that sucks, Thanks for your help I was hoping it would be something
simple. One more question, why does it only seem to do it at the outer edge of the disk? If the laser was deteriorated laser why not on the whole disc why just 1/2" from the end of the disc. Thanks for all your time! Kevin "Mark D. Zacharias" wrote in message thlink.net... Actually, could be even more than 140.00 mz "Mark D. Zacharias" wrote in message thlink.net... Marginal pickups do this after playing a while. It has to do with time,
heat, laser emission, etc. Skipping, freezing, pixelating after playing a while is a classic symptom. I would say, however, Pioneers are better than most so far as pickup life is concerned. Mark Z.
