treadmill
hi folks,
my treadmill has been in storage for a few months, i took it out for use & found it stops about a second after the motor starts turning (with no load on belt) the problem is intermittant in that by persisting with the start & stop buttons eventually i can get the motor to run as it should & go for a run on it.once the treadmill is warmed up, however the problem does not reoccur. i googled a bit & found a test to verify motor ok by connecting motor direct to a multimeter & reading off DC voltage at 3mph. i got 60v, which is well above the minimum generally acceptable 28v. i checked that the speed sensor is clean(even though it doesnt look like an optical one). The controller board has a big cap on it & a relay. any ideas what to try next? thanks L |

the cutting out on starting is similar to the overload cutting out the compressor on a fridge
but the mill belt does not appear sticky.& the problem only happens when the mill is used from cold, once you get it runnning you can start & stop as much as you want with no probs thx again |

Warmed up the belt is more pliable and the wheels go round and round. |

Maybe a good cleaning of the commutator and new set of brushes may help.. Jamie You said something about measuring the voltage at the motor. I don't understand what you meant by that. Is that a tach output where you measured that voltage? If the voltage you measured as you said is almost three times the minimum specified is that OK? Do you have any more information on the motor? Also another thought. The motor may be easily bench tested, but unless it's done under load the test may be invalid for your purposes. Lenny |
