how sensitive is it with laptops(what chance is it stops working)when
done proper way?

As long as you make sure that the mainboard is level before you start
heating it up you should be fine. A trick to not warping the board is to
heat up the opposite side first and then turn it over and heat the area
your trying to resolder. When try to rework a board I stay about 6" from it
and use a small circular motion while heating the area.

If you get hold of a similar board to practise on and a non-contact infra
red thermometer you can get an idea of how long you need to heat , heat
setting/distance/ orientation etc, before some parts will overheat
