radio aerial (antenna) won't stay in position

The pivot may be "lubricated" with powdered metal, derived from the
material itself (probably plated brass). Take the joint apart, clean it
thoroughly with solvent and/or detergent plus scrubbing, *lubricate it*,
and reassemble.
